digital audio out -> dvi audio in?

Hi my Samsung DVD-V5500 has a digital audio out port and i'm wondering if I can use it with my Samsung LN37B650 HDTV's dvi audio in port. The TV doesn't have any digital audio in port so this is the next closest thing I could think of. What worries me is that the dvi audio in has 2 ports whereas the digital out from the dvd only has one. So can this be done? I'm asking all this assuming a digital audio out is better than a regular stereo audio out. Is this true?

Yes digital audio is normally the best choice to use with DVI. There are 2 types of digital audio ports optical and coaxial, you would choose only one to use (both are good), this may be what you are referring to as having 2 input ports?

Actually what I meant was that the DVI audio in "port" is made up of 2 ports (an 'R' and an 'L') whereas the "digital audio out" port is made up of 1. See page 12 of the HDTV's manual (http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200904/20090407174114593/BN68-02089F-00L02-0331.pdf)for the DVI audio in port and page 18 of the DVD's manual (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000069024.pdf) for the digital audio out port.

The two R and L ports are analog not digital and would not be compatible with digital.

Since DVI does not carry any audio (digital or analog), it requires a separate input for the audio.
Your set accepts standard analog stereo audio ('R' and 'L') as the audio input when using the digital DVI video input.
Use the stereo L/R audio outputs from the player to the stereo L/R inputs to the TV.
If you try to connect the digital audio out from the player to the stereo L/R on the TV you'll get zip, nada, zero.

. . . whereas the "digital audio out" port is made up of 1.
That is a true digital audio output port to be used for connecting the TV to an auxiliary sound system.
