Oh boy another thing to worry about! mid winter last yr D* told me not to worry about sat. rec. for hd because of trees as long as I got a signal then. They were right......until the leaves started growing. So me and my neighbor split the cost to cut a tree down. (it was a "junk tree") now I wonder if I'm going to have to defoliate the south side of my neighborhood to get the locals! don't worry,I won't go that far.

You shouldn't have to. New birds will be in almost the same slots as current birds.

Current is 101, 110, 119. I think the new ones are at 99 and 103. If you can see the current 3, you shouldn't have any problems with the new ones unless you can barely see 101.

Hmmmm Trees. Well I am getting 96 percent on sat 101. I am getting nothing on sat 119 and I just installed LNB C sat 110 for HD. Iwhen first hooking it up I got about 49 percent, then it went down to 20 and now nothing at all. I am looking at a cluster of trees. I thought I was above them for the most part. Perhaps I need a taller pole. But How can I get 96 percent on sat 101 and then other LNBs are right next to them and I cant get a signal?

Because the 110 is 9 degrees to the right, and the 119 is another 9 degrees. It makes a big difference. To tell where you are looking, get a compass that has degrees on it and you will be able to tell exactly what is in the way.

Also, since the other birds are further west, they are also lower on the horizon, so you need more clearance over the trees then you do for the 101.

Hmmm Interesting. The 101 lnb is on the low side of the tilt. But if the 101 bird is higher I can see where I don't have a problem. Perhaps I will have to place the dish at a higher point. Won't know until a tech gets here. Until then I will continue to read and tinker. As I first said I did get a 49 percent on HD for a few hours. I can't be that far off. But a 18 degree span from 101 to 119 is a lot. Ok how about compass help. Do I point my compass north and then see what the SW dgree reading is?

Very true if you are on the east coast. It's the opposite scenario for west coast folks.
