ok here goes.
im new to this forum
i have a panasonic 47" rp CRT (Model PT-47WX53) it displays a maximum of 1080i via a DVI cable.

i had a regular dvd player and someone told me to get an upconverter dvd player so i go an LG upconverter player
i don't see much difference from the old dvd player and the new.
i set the new player to output 1080i and it looks the same.

will a blu-ray player look better?

As far as regular DVDs, probably not. But Bluray movies on a Bluray player will most definitely be an improvement. It appears your TV does a very good job of upconverting DVDs to 1080i. That's why you don't see much of a difference. Before I got my Bluray player, I had an upconverting DVD player. I too did not see any difference. The only reason I got an upconverting player was the fact that it would output via HDMI. I had gotten a new receiver with HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. It completely eliminated the cable mess behind my setup.

so actually the TV upscales a standard dvd from a standard dvd player?
so i don't need an upconverter dvd player?

Yes, it should. If you TV does not have an HDMI input, you will need to connect the Bluray via Component, or get an HDMI to DVI adapter.
