We just put in a samsung 8500 and were wondering how we can view our PC desktop on the TV. We have a wireless router and we have the wireless dongle on the TV. We have a wireless mouse and keyboard so it would be nice to use the TV as a monitor but i dont know if i have to run a line from the computer to the TV or since i have wireless is there some way to just use that. Thanks

You could add a computer at the HDTV and use a remote desktop to view the PC desktop. I don't know of any box that would take the video from your PC and transmit wireless to your HDTV. There are some that will work with HDMI or component over cat5 cables, but not wireless.

You can connect your PC to the HDTV via HDMI or VGA/audio cables and just use a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse.

What do you mean by wireless dongle on the TV?

Some of the epson projectors we have at work are capable of accepting a video stream via a wireless or wired network. The projectors top out at 1024x768, and the quality just cannot compare to VGA or DVI, but it is technically possible.

That said, I've never seen this sort of feature in a television.

He wants to be able to view his desktop not just a video stream. Video streams would be a lot easier.

Maybe I used the wrong words. It's not just a streaming video, it is the entire display, just like you would get on a traditional monitor. The problem is that the quality isn't all that great.

I have both my notebook and desktop computers hooked up to my 40" and 50" HDTVs (HDMI) and they work beautifully at full 1080p. I also have my Xbox 360 and PS3 (HDMI via receiver) hooked up as well and they all work fine.

I see someone else asked about the "wireless dongle" on the TV and I have the same question. If connection from PC to TV is not practical with HDMI, you might want to check out the new Netgear Push2TV unit. Operates on wireless N and connects to the TV with HDMI. I just happened to see an ad for it after reading your post.

But if the OP wants to buy a new laptop, that may be a solution.
