New Super Mario Bros. Wii... Over 10 Million Served

In terms of hardcore games -- that is unless you don't consider NSMB Wii to be hardcore, which it should because the game is actually damn hard -- I'd say NSMB might have a chance of retaking the throne from MW2. The game has sold over 10 million units worldwide and has no intention of slowing down.

I think MW2 is at 16 million right now, but that's across two consoles.

Go New Super Mario Bros.!! :D

I got this a few weeks ago.. Love it.

Actually, the 2 games mentioned in your post are the only two I play.

Yeah that game is hard as a bitch. Good party game though since you can fuck each other up and everyone will play old school mario.

How far along are you? I already reached my breaking point and came to terms with the fact that I'll never beat world 5. I'd trade it in but like jusHD said, it's a good party game.

I really, really, really want this game. I just don't have a Wii, and can't justify paying $250 just for Mario.

Really? I've only found this game to be really hard when playing with 2 or more people. By myself it is of a good difficulty (for me). I've been the game 100% and I just started again last night to beat it 100% without dying on any level 8 times (that brings up the help guide and you get something "extra" if you beat it without bringing that up, though it really isn't that big of a deal).

Where's Mr T when you need him? Grow some nuts! "just for Mario" is what some pussy Sonic fan would have said 15 years ago :p

Oh snap, over 10 million already! That's pretty damn good, hopefully it has some legs and prints more money for Ninty.

I just got past the middle castle in world two.. Spent a couple hours doing that because I want to beat every stage and not skip any so then I figured out if I just beat one path to the castle it will save and I can work on beating the other path after that.. before I was trying to complete both paths and getting stuck using continues when I couldn't make it. UGH.

May put some time into this tonight..

I think this game is way to generous with 1ups

I love this game.. Great party game, it's challenging and frustrating at the same time.. This is the only game that I played with other people, that actually pisses me off. The queen(GF) and my daughter refuse to play with me.. lol.. They say I get into it.. I just want to get all the coins and beat the level..

You can do quick saves at any time, so you don't have to beat a castle before you can put the game down :)

I'm glad to see there is still demand for 2D platformers, they used to be my favourite genre. Also NSMB Wii is a damn good example of the genre and one of the best 2D platformers of all time. It's definitely a classic and well worthy of it's sales.

I think it's easiest with 2 players since you can go off each others continues while still having some sense of control, when you get over 2 players it gets too crazy and becomes impossible. 1 player is frustrating too imo, because I have to keep starting the world/ over every time I run out of lives and no one to help me advance.

It's definitely a classic and well worthy of it's sales.

Are you saying it's worthy of outselling Super Mario Galaxy? :p

Yes I am, the balance and level design for multiplayer is absolutely incredible. As great as Galaxy was, NSMB Wii trumps it IMO. I was initially cautious as I didn't rate the DS version that much, it was a very nice game, but it was far from a classic. This time around they've got it right.

How do you open up World 7? The SOBAY household has gotten to the end of World 8, but can't seem to open up World 7.

Aren't there only 8 Worlds? What what I can see from googling there are only 8. And apparently World 8 is really really awesome... Too bad I'll never see why. Cause honestly, this is just another Mario game to me at this point. Mario Galaxy is like 100x as fun and feels new and refreshing. Same with LBP. I feel like I'm playing Super Nintendo when I play NSMB Wii. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game but I'm baffled why people like MikeRox think its better than Super Mario Galaxy.

Did you beat World 6-Castle and World 6-Airship? There isn't anything that is hidden to get to World 7. You just can't use a cannon to warp to World 7, but you shouldn't have to do anything special.

GLOW. You can see World 8 if you can get to the Cannon in World 5. Don't know where you are in that world but if you find the secret exit in the Ghost House, you will unlock the path to the Cannon which will bring you to World 8.

Isn't there a 9th world that you have to get the big coins to unlock or something?

It really is amazing and something that should be capitalized on by Nintendo. Hopefully without them going too crazy. I don't have it yet, and I am not sure if I will. I am just about half way through SMG and just got Link to the Past in VC and have NMH2 and RS2 rated ahead of these on the want scale. I am trying to get it for my birthday this year, we will see.

Hopefully peoples love of 2D continues, the rumour I have heard is that Metroid Other M will be a 2.5D throwback action game. If so, that will be really cool, we will have to see how it plays.

It was Sony that killed 2D gaming. Most specifically SCE America, who had an almost outright ban on 2D games in the mid to late 90s (the odd title such as Symphony of the Night made it through).

I don't know if things improved for the PS2 but it certainly seems like they're finally starting to see that there IS a market for 2D titles (look at the popularity of the likes of Braid on Steam/XBLA/PSN).

All that because they thought people would think less of the PS1 if any games didn't have any polygons.
