Hello All,

I have been on Comcast now for nearly 2 years for HS Internet, TV and full phone. Just upgraded to their bottom end HD package which also upped the internet now to 12 meg on download. I am very interested in the U-verse as I have heard they are now in my area. I would appreciate your thoughts, comments, suggestions, pro/cons over Comcast. My main goal is saving as much hard earned money as possible and if I can combine TV/Wireless phone/Internet/Phone for a cheaper price than I am paying now ($173.00) per month, I would love to consider a switch.

Thanks,
GAB

My first question would be how many HD tv's you have. Uverse only allows you to do 2 HD feeds simultaneously. So keep that in mind.

Main pro for Uverse is the dvr is centralized. You can record and view programs on it from any room. You can only pause and fast forward however on the main dvr box.

Main pro for comcast is its on demand. Its by far the best out there.

Uverse set top boxes are much faster than the comcast ones. Aka, the guide is fast, changing channels is fast, etc.

Uverse has distance limitations. meaning, the farther away your service is, it seems it gets worse. So make sure when the tech comes out that you are on at least a 25Mbit profile. If they say you are on 19mbit, dont bother with it would be my advice. Send them packing. So in other words, dont shut off comcast until the installer for uverse arrives and you confirm what your profile will be.

The uverse wireless router is very strong. Its ALOT better than any wireless i have ever bought.

Lastly on uverse, you get 300 bucks if you sign up online, so make sure and do that!! Once its installed, make sure you go Redeem it online as well. They dont just automatically send it to you.

Comcast internet, at least in the SF bay area is hands down alot faster. Uverse DSL is very stable though. I was actually pretty impressed. I had dsl back in the day through a few companies and never had the stability my cable modem did. They seemed to have mastered that now. uverse does offer faster speeds if you are close enough to your VRAD and are at least on a 25mbit profile.

I get more freezing/pixelation on uverse than i did with comcast. So make sure you run that uverse for a good 15min before you let the techs leave. You can read nightmare stories on the board here.

My final advice is leave your comcast service active until you verify your profile and are happy with the uverse before disconnecting. Mine is great and i love it. Alot of HD on uverse. 115 channels i believe. Good luck!

Actually there is a way to pause, rewind and fast forward on any non DVR. I do it all of the time. What you do is record the program, then play the recording.

Also, don't order online. Either order over the phone or better yet, go into a COR store and actually talk with a rep. They can actually offer the same money back deals or sometimes beat the online BS.

Help your local economy and go to a store.

Thanks all for the info. I now just need to confirm they are not actually in my neighborhood.

i think it was better to order online

I would agree to this that ordering online was much easier and faster than the usual procedure. :) If you have any doubts or queries you can use the chatting services. :busy: The reps are there to help you out and they would be glad to suggest a good plan based on your requirements. :angel

Yep

So essentially you can make all your STB's become DVR's.

Another difference between comcast & at&t u-verse is PRICE.

U-verse is much cheaper.

I still fail to see the need for a 12mb DL speed...
