MPEG4 technology

I'm new here so this may be an easy question to answer. I've been under the impression that there will be no need to purchase an antenna to pick up local stations when the new technology rolls out, is this correct?

Thanks for the help.

mhayes,
That depends.....
I personally perfer to use my OTA antenna, less compression, at least I think it is, just looks better to me.

Also, if you have an antenna and can get your locals via antenna, why pay D* extra money continually to get your locals that you can already get with an antenna that you pay for once.

The OTA signal will show thru the D* receiver an show on the guide as well. I have mine split and run directly to TV as well as the H10.
Not as much difference as I thought there might be, but still like FREE over paying for locals.

BTW, a lot of the local stations are already available via D*, just not in HD .... yet .

No longer true. The Total Choice packages have been revised and now include locals in the base price.

Many folks living significant distance from the broadcase sites need a substantial external antenna to get any OTA at all.

Also, many people don't like the appearance of an OTA antenna and would opt to live with the compression.

I'd opt for the OTA and better pq, but my geography prohibits OTA without a 60-foot mast and rotor. Not an option.

jpnuzzo,

I will have the Total Choice + package without the locals.
If you look at the brochures it gives you the price including your locals, so that they will sell them, without asking the customer. More revenue for them.

If you do not need locals, it says to deduct $ 3.00.

I refuse to pay them for locals when I don't need them.

Will I get local stations in HD once the new MPEG4 without an OTA antenna once the new technology arrives?

I have a feeling once they're available in your DMA that'll you'll be charged even more for the HD locals if you want them.
