My new reciever(HD)and dish will be installed on Thursday. Do I need a phone jack in proximity to the new reciever? Also will the new reciever have a coaxial digital out. All my boxes currently have optical digital outs and no matter what I do I can't get 5.1 from sattelite broadcasts.(Yes I have all the neccessary equipment-pre/pro(5.1 and DTS)and 5 channel amp) Thanks in advance.

You only need the phone jack if you plan on ordering Pay-Per-View via the receiver otherwise, no. As for audio jacks...no one can answer since we don't know what model receiver you will be getting. You'll soon know when it arrives.

Do I have any recourse if I'm not satisfied with the box's capabilities??? Don't you think there should be a standard-so you know what your getting? I went through this crap last time. I "disabled the cable" just like the commercial says. My cable box had digital out(coaxial) I would get 5.1 whenever it was available. I get my new sattelite boxes and there wasn't a digital out-period. It cost me another 150.00 to swap out 2 boxes(that had a digital/optical out),and after all that I still couldn't get 5.1. BTW-Yes my pre/pro decodes 5.1 and everything else for that matter. If it weren't for the NFL package I'd probably still have cable. OK I'm done venting...............

Most likley you will be receiving an H-10 receiver. Since that is the ony one being made these days. It does have a digital audio out coax connection as well as an optical one. There is however a chance that you may get another receiver model.

All STBs have configurable abilities to be compatible with the wide variety of TV abilities. It's likely your STBs with SPDIF out simply hadn't turned it on.
