Power Surge = Dead Pixels?

I recently purchased a 32" Samsung LCD TV (LA32B650) and after a few days i noticed three bright white dead pixels. I got a replacement and a few days after having this TV set up i noticed two black dead pixels. I got a refund. When I took the TV back to Myer the guy helping me out said I was really unlucky to have had one LCD with dead pixels let alone two and it might be a problem with power surges causing the dead pixels.

Before I buy a new TV I wanted to see if there was any truth to this power surge dead pixel theory and if there is can I get some sort of surge protection?

Thanks in advance!

. . . the guy helping me out said . . . it might be a problem with power surges causing the dead pixels.
More likely the phases of the moon, but equally likely to be either.
The guy was, at best, showing his complete ignorance; at worst, lying.

True. But a surge should always be used anyway IMO. It was not the cause of his problem since a surge is more to be a first line of defense against major damage issues with the connected device.
