Has anyone had any sucess in adding a hard drive to the 6141 to make it a pvr that is not the Western Digital model that Bell is selling.

Thanks, Hydromn

Yes and no, I'm using a Western Digital hard drive, but it wasn't purchased from Bell or the one they recommend. It's an old hard drive I had lying around and has about a 20 hour recording capacity. Enclosed it in a portable hard disk storage case that has it's own external power supply, and connected it to the 6141 via a USB cord.

Thanks for info. If your setup works, I assume the software to do the recording to the hd must reside on the receiver rather than the hd ?? I will keep looking around, thanks.

This is from Bell's site. You may want to check and ensure your HD meets these requirements. Good luck.

Many major external hard drive brands are compatible with the HD receiver. The minimum requirements are:

* 7200 RPM rotation speed
* Between 40 and 750 GB of capacity
* Holds a single hard drive (enclosures holding 2 disks are not supported)
* Plugs into an AC power outlet
* USB 2.0 connection
* No sleep mode (cannot power down when idle)

I got the 6141 when Bell replaced the 6000 series. I just went and picked up a generic USB enclosure for $30 and a 500GB Western Digital Black Cavalier for $60. Plugged it in, receiver reset and the PVR was good to go.
