RX8,

Yes you are correct, however this is available OTA, so if you have a good antenna you can watch it for free every Monday nite. :)

However you would need ESPNHD if you want Sunday nites game.

I amhoping ABC decides to do College Football in HD this year, anyone heard anything from them yet ???

I'd be shocked if they didn't. ESPN is doing them on a more regular basis (at least last season), and since they're related.... here's hopin'. But then again, all they cover is the Pac 10...feh. :)

Currently with cable I do have locals in HD and ESPN HD. Now i have to decide if I want to spend extra, get my Directtv back and do the crapshoot on which games are going to be in HD. Very nice to look at though and this is what I wanted the new tv for in the first place.

jmuskratt,

Up in my area ABC covers my Buckeyes !!!
So I have been trying to get an answer out of my local ABC affiliate since last football season.
Hoping for the best.
At the very least I should be able to see the Ohio State vs Texas game in HD seeing it is a prime time 8pm game (at least I hope)
I was quite disappointed last year to find out that the OSU vs michigan game was not in HD.
Last year thier response was "We don't do college in HD".., then proceeded to do all the bowl games in HD.

Go figure,
Jimbo

CatManDoo,

Yes CBS does a fabulous job, except up here CBS shows SEC or ACC football only, unfortunatly you would think all the networks would show reginial football, I really can't complain cause 98 % of the Buckeyes games are on TV, usually all of them, between ESPN and ABC, I 'm just wondering if either are going to be in HD. We know it CAN be done so why not do it.!!!

Maybe I'll drop them an email, that usually works better than the phone

Can't be done- YET & here's why. There are massive hardware upgrades that need to be done. Take for example ESPN. On any given weekend, they cover 70-80 events. That's means you need 80 HD trucks, and about 650 HD cameras to cover all of them. I'll leave it to your imagination how much all that hardware would cost, but somebody's got to pay for it. Add in there are satellite bandwidth isues.

If anything sport is going to go all HD, it's the NFL- and even that isn't happpening this season.

hoorta,

I just knew someone was going to point this out soon, I guess I was just dreaming.......
Could'nt they do the big riivalry and primetime games, as mentioned before.
Those may be possible.

I see CBS doing ACC or SEC witchever it is EVERY week, so yes it could be done to a certian extent. , and that is up north , why does CBS carry Southern football up north ????
ABC carries reginal., the BIG TEN is on ABC and ESPN every week, something could be done.
Q. Does CBS pay for the cameras (I'm sure) . Does the SEC pitch in for the cost ?

ESPN does a Primetime Saturday nite 7:30 game in HD every week, Why not pick a Game of the Week in the Big Ten ? early game.

ABC always has a 3:30 game , there is a prime example of thier Game of the Week already, lets do that in HD.

Of course all of this could have already been talked about with the networks and we would never know it.....

The Big Ten started the instant reply stuff, lets get on board with HD please :yippee:  :yippee:

From the link 2nd2no1 provided, here's the college pigskin coverage from last year that so far seems to be this year's serving as well: ...a Thursday night and a Satruday game on ESPNHD, an SEC game on CBS, and a game on HDNet most weeks in HDTV. So far ABC has made no mention of broadcasting their regional coverage games and their national "showcase" games in HD and ESPN's Saturday Gameplan program has none of the games in HD with the exception of adding one or two games a week to ESPN2HD. Also for you Notre Dame fans (including me), NBC has no plans to broadcast those games in HD. It looks like critical-mass for college football games in HD is still two to three years away. :(

But hey, the Little League World Series will be in HD..... :( It's nice we have our priorities straight in this country.

p.s. I bet if the new Pope were from Ireland instead of Germany he would do something about Notre Dame in HD!! :D

I dread looking forward to next year when NBC gets Sunday Night Football. I don't mind ESPN picking up MNF from ABC, but the thought of losing SNF to NBC makes me shudder! In my humble opinion, this is how I rate the networks on HD (especially sports):

1. ESPN
2. FOX
3. CBS :yippee:
4. ABC :(
5. NBC

Of course, INHD  should be mentioned even though it's just on Cable. And I can't speak for TNT  because I STILL don't have it (Thanks, Comcast!)

Anyone else have an opinion?

Rumor has it that those preseason games will be shown on DirecTV's channel 84. We'll soon know this weekend. :)

CatManDoo,
I would not be so harsh on NBC just yet. They CAN do HD correctly and have till next year to get thier football down right.

If you watch NASCAR , you will see that NBC does a real nice job in HD as well as FOX , for some reason I think CBS is the top HD network to this date, however I think the 1080i vs 720p is the reason the channels look so different.
Just my opinion, most if the HD programming on CBS looks sharper than the others.

Most fast action sports are done in 720p (ESPN, ABC) . Due to the progressive scan used for fast action, i being interlaced does'nt deal with motion as well.
I do believe CBS is showing thier SEC games in 1080i, that is why I think it looks so much better than others.

Fox has to play catch up, but I think they will be there soon.

NBC no one has seen football in HD so we shall see ... I think they are tarnsmitting in 720, but I could be wrong.

Opps, just checked my H10 and NBC is in 1080i

Yeah I read that thread last week...however "confirmation" from one guy with no official word from NBC or MSNBC's Notre Dame Central website isn't good enough at the moment. I'll believe it when the network makes an announcement.

I just spoke to my local chief engeneer at ABC (earlier today)
He told me that ABC WILL be doing HD for College Football locally, He did not say all of them ,but did say some will be...
He said most likley the BIG GAMES on the schedule.

In my case, it's Ohio State and TEXAS for sure (unless thats ESPN)
and the OHIO STATE vs Michigan ..... at least !!! :yippee: finally
