i have the HD/DVR from cablevision, i lost power recently, and when the box powered up it doesnt recgonize the HDMI cable attached from the box to the tv, i have 2 other hdmi cables and i tried those and the cablebox didnt recgonize them too. all 3 hdmi cables are fine, could the cablebox just be busted, in over a year i havent had any problems till now

Unless you have recordings you don't want to lose, I would swap it out for a new one.

Have you tried the component outputs?

what model? the first generation motorola dvr's need the hdmi turned back after a power outage or box reboot. if it is motorola turn the box off and quickly press menu and right/left until you see something on the tv, or the hdmi port could have failed.

right now i have the hddvr hooked up through component cables, works fine, but i think i would get better picture from the hdmi cables

No actually they, for all intents and purposes will look the same (component/HDMI).
