Is that new Vizio LED really all that?

The cable guy was talking about how great it is and he kinda made me feel bad about my Samsung LCD. Well... I don't feel totally bad since the Samsung is my first HDTV and I'll eventually save up and buy a newer one.

You had the high end Samsung LED didn't you? And you returned it for a Panasonic plasma too. Or am I mixing you up with someone else?

If it was you, then you could answer this better than most since you had both in your home with typical lighting (which plays a huge part in how they look in a home) people would have.

Correction: ...facts are released...

Compared to other LCD's LED's are great. But definitely not worth the price, or the improvement in PQ. If you want better PQ forget LCD altogether.

Not all of us can use plasma.

My Vizio is no where close to the processor in my Samsung. I was not able to balance the colors when calibrating it (and no its not worth professional calibration). Maybe the new "top of the line" Vizio is better but I think it's just a second tier manufacturer.

I know we cant all use plasma. I don't even have one. I actually only own two Vizios. Love em both.

It's still a fact, if you want the best PQ you just drop LCD altogether.

I'm a plasma "fanboy" so to speak, because I do have experience with them. I've even watched them in a room that isn't that dark and the PQ still blows me away. We all watched our CRT's for years and we only started complaining about brightness and glare issues until LCD's with their stupid matte screens came out. What happened? A bright room doesn't kill it that much, unless you have windows that shine sun directly on the screen I don't see it as an issue. And how many people really watch TV in the middle of the day with curtains wide open?

I've gotten to the point where I see almost no reason except for computer use to not get a plasma.

Answer the question asked and quit forcing your OPINION on everybody.

Yes, its an OPINION.

I have no issues with plasma TV's, I have serious issues with forced opinions.

P.S. Junior????? I bet I got 30 years on your junior ass.

A person who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones. I believe you were the one who wanted to stir the pot when you directed your "fanboy" comment once again toward plasma owners. BTW, I have owned two Vizios LCDs. They're decent displays for a tight budget or an extra set in a bedroom or whatnot but I wouldn't spend the extra money on "LED" backlighting. But hey, that's just me.

I don't exactly hold a gun to someone's head and tell them to buy a plasma instead, so how am I forcing anything on anyone? Last time I checked, this board was open to all opinions...good or bad. I was no more off topic than you were.

If you're 61 years old and haven't learned about the difference in technology, then I suppose you never will. Best of luck to you with your inferior picture, old man. :haha:

it is funny how every person that complains about everyone here suggests panasonic plasmas not one of them states why people SHOULDNT suggest panasonics. they just claim fanboyism. where as people suggesting the plasmas give you reasons WHY. I think its the LCD fans with buyers remorse that are the fanboys

It's kinda like a Mac/PC debate. People with Macs just throw out dumb comments about how PC's suck. Whereas people who argue for PC's tend to have a logical argument with good reasons as to why they choose PC.

No offense to anybody.

The ignorant never know they shouldn't be arguing with people who know what they're talking
about.

Again, no offense, I'm not calling anybody ignorant (except for the general Apple user base). Just making a comment.

Ive been wondering the same thing about vizio's new truled VF551XVT. In response to the thread question I havnt seen the tv in action but all the reviews I've read say the tv is amazing. Cnet rates it as the 11th best HDTV on the market today. That list includes plasmas and the 3-4 thousand dollar samsung Leds. The vizio can be had for 1500-1800 and that price will drop dramatically when vizio's new VF552 comes out. The major difference will be that the 552 tv offers some type of widgets and wifi. Both tvs use backlit leds which is considered the best of the two led techs.

All that being said I had the privilage of sitting in front of a pioneer elite Kuro this week and I understand why the fanyboys (joking), plasma guys feel the way they do. The PQ was awsome but it was seeing this tv that made me realize I wanted to go led, specifically the vizio 551.

Why would the unmatched PQ of a Kuro Elite make you want to get a LED-LCD?

Just curious...

The only reason why anyone would chose LCD instead of plasma, lighting conditions. My girlfriends uncle is the one that owns the tv. The guy is millionair and has the closest thing to an MTV cribs house that I will ever be in. In his tv room he has the ability to close off almost all the light from outside. Obviously these are the ideal conditions for the tv. When the light came on and the curtains are open I became really frustated with all the reflection. I probably wouldn't bother most but I couldn't see past it. For me personally, I know I don't want my shades drawn evertime I watch tv. I know that newer plasmas are better about it but it really bothers me when I'm watching tv to have the lamp or reflection from outside showing on my tv. Its more of a personal pet peive for me and when considering my future setup I beleive I will want to watch tv during the day with windows open.

I understand that between the two techs plasma rules supreme but I think, yes my opinion is, that the led offers a nice middle ground between the two. Sometimes I'm going to want the lights off and others I want the windows open and lights on. My logic might be flawed but it makes sense to me based on what I've been reading on this forum.

You certainly don't want to turn the lights off when watching a LCD as the black level becomes washed out and gray not black.

Bad choice of analogy atleast for me. As I use both and fully understand the benefits of macs. Also would never buy another cell phone besides an iphone.

I should have put emphasis on the word general Apple user base. I tend to get into a lot, and I mean a lot, of arguments with a lot of different Mac users who don't even know how a computer works for the most part... which is why they ended up with Macs (no offense, I know plenty of Mac owners know a lot about computers). But in my experience Mac owners really only say one or two things: "Macs just work" or "PC's get a lot of viruses", not a very strong argument IMO, and that's about their entire argument. I've encountered it entirely too often. That's why I used that analogy.

iPhones are a completely differently topic to me, I love em, just a little too expensive and therefore entirely not worth it to me. So I tend to prefer HTC phones.

CrAkD
12-27-2009, 02:25 PM
Well if you don't mind staying with AT&T $199 ain't bad for a smart phone. I had my first iPhone on tmo but I finally gave in and went to AT&T and got a 32gb 3GS. I get what your saying about the general fans of apple. But that's true about fans of almost anything. Like I said I use both and would probably use mac exclusively however mac pros are too expensive I just built a comparable i7 rig for a fraction of the price.
