and the cookie cutter answer Dear Mr. Kolkowski,

Thanks for writing. DIRECTV is getting ready to offer local digital channels (HD locals) in select cities, later this year. The local channels in High Definition are expected to launch in late 2005.

The first 12 cities that will carry local digital channels are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington, D.C.

I understand how important HDTV programming is to you. DIRECTV is committed to providing the best in HDTV programming and we're working hard to be able to add new HD channels and programming.

Thanks again for writing and stay tuned to DIRECTV.com/HDTV for the latest news and announcements as they become available.

Sincerely,

Teresa D

I live near Atlanta and have not received any special notifications of up and coming things for our area. You would think that I would get a teaser or something in the mail!

I'm sure this concise, stunning and eloquent query to Direct TV had everybody in the customer support department scrambling to draft a detailed and in depth response.

We get local channel but still need more programming. Where I live the local OTA was to weak to get. I was glad to get them so I quess I ought to be happy for the little we get. I wonder when TNT-HD, and ESPN2HD will becoming to D*?

I was only really worried about the local OTA, and D* was the cheapest way to get the tuner. D*'s HD offerings, local or not, are week. In fact, Local HD is of less concern to me, then TNT-HD. ESPN2-HD could never come for all I care, until more HD programming is offered. ESPN, itself is pretty week, but at least Sunday Night games will be available.

Hey Shellback! I'm in good ol'Newnan as well. There are actually a few of us on this forum.

I talked to DTV the other day and they have no idea what is going on. They said local HD "sometime" this fall. I have a feeling it will be after footbal season kicks off.

I really love my NFL Tkt but I don't know if the equipment is worth the investment right now. I have local HD with cable and love it. No buying of anything or commitment.

Still have Dtv upstairs but just SD.

They are really starting to annoy me!

I suppose it's me, but what does DTV have to do with local broadcasters?? If you have no local HD I recomend you go to the local TV broadcasters and ask them the same ?. DTV has no control over those suppliers. But, DTV will surprise all of those who think they got a better deal with DNet. This fall we are in for what we all have been wanting: HD TV
