As I am waiting for my 500m to arrive, courtesy of this forums recomendations.

I have a question or 2 about calibration.

When it gets done is it locked in?

What I mean is if my 4 year old grabs the remote one day and starts pushing buttons while im not looking and starts changing settings will it mess up my calibration and mess it up?

Is it locked in or not?

Also, can you tell me about this patch that I keep hearing about?
How much is it, and does this void the warrenty?

Thanks

You can write down your settings in either case. The only thing I know of that will wipe out calibration all together is on some sets accessing the service menu will reset all back to factory defaults.

yes it is locked unless you are silly enough to enter the service menu and begin altering things yourself...

not permanant, but I would only consider a professional calibration once every couple of years

Well cleveland plasma the company I bought the set from through Ebay hooked me up with Chad Billheimer, he is supposed to be the best of the best in calibrating.

They are also going to do the whole breaking in process for me along with the calibration from Chad for a really great deal.

It is going to force me to hold off on recieving the TV for an additional 3 weeks, but I figure I will enjoy it more since I will be able to use it the way I want straight out of the box.

I have come a long way in less then a month.

Was going to buy a cheap Bravia LCD until you guys talked me into this.

I cant wait to see the super bowl with this set.

The Superbowl will look amazing. Have you scheduled to have HD service installed before your new TV arrives?

I already have HD. I have a 2 year old 46 inch Phillips 720P LCD

That Tv will get sent to the bedroom, replaced by my new 500M.

Now if my taste get too spoiled with this new set, I may have to go though this process all over again. LOL and replace this Phillips being sent to my bedroom.

I have an old Directv DVR. Its the first one they ever offered.
I have had many chances to upgrade but turned it down because I hear that the new DVRs do not have an antenna conection.

I now need this antenna tuner more then ever because this 500 dont have one.

Will this old DTV DVR hurt my picture?
I never really cared much about it before because I never had a tv that could push it to its limits.

No, it will be just fine. I imagine you will get spoiled by the superlative picture the Pioneer delivers. Get ready for some other TV replacement...:)

What my dad did do hook his antenna is just hook it straight to his tv, its a sony bravia, thru the coax, and satellite through rca jacks I believe. He is 70 yrs old and by no means a tv expert either lol. But when he wants to watch hd channels, he just hits input and there it is.

Im not going to be able to do that with this 500m. It was no tuner.
I will have to go thru my DTV reciever to get locals in HD.
My DVR is getting old, and the new models dont have a tuner.

I dont know what im going to do if I have to replace this old DTV DVR. I will have to figure out a new way to get locals on my TV.

I also need to get a SS system, because it was no speakers.

Can anyone tell me the best SS system I can get for $700 or less?

Time to switch to Dish. Unless you must have NFL ticket, it's got better equipment and more HD programming.

The patch cost 100.00 and yes it voids warranty.
The patch will add three new AV selections to your menu.
ISF Night, ISF Day, ISF Auto and these calibrated settings cannot be changed via the user menu.

I second that. Their DVR's are the best...

This would sound great and is within your budget. It will serve your needs in the future for expansion as well - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTS6200/Onkyo/Ht-s6200-7.1-channel-Home-Entertainment-Package-includes-iPod-Dock/1.html
