H-10 software update to 433

At 1:00 AM this morning I had a message appear on my screen asking if I wanted a software update now or later. I selected now and an update took place to 433 from 403 over a couple of minutes. Everything had to be reset at that point. I had no HD channels, local channels etc. I called support and was talked through a reseting of my options and programing. The info screen now says an update to 433 from 403 took place at 1:03 AM on 8/2. So far everything seems to work fine, no blackouts, etc.

Really? Cool. My HDMI cut out intermittingly last night. Was very annoying. I'll have to check mine tonight when I get home and see if its available on mine.

Got mine at 1:05 PT and had the same problem (lost local channels) which D*'s technical support fixed promptly over the phone.

Do any of you who received the updates also have the HDMI wire attached? If so, did you used to experience the blackout problems and now you don't? Please say yes to both these questions.....

For those of you who have received the fix, where are you located? I wonder if DTV is sending out regionally (or some geographically based approach) and tht is why some have it and some do not.

DTV told me that all time zones will have the fix by Agust 9th (hopefully sooner, but no promises.) She also stated that this fix is definteily expected to resolve the HDMI blackout issue. Sure is funny how all of a sudden DTV fully aknowledges this problem once they have a fix for it. Before now, some aknowledged it. Some did not.

No. It comes over the air, not the phone line. Latest from DTV is the eastern time zone will "start " getting the fix right after midnight on the 9th (that is Tues morning). They expect the whole time zone to have it w/in 24 hours, but cannot gurantee it. 48 hours tops they said. I did not ask about Mountain or Central.

Almost a week here on the west coast with vers. 4.3, and it all seems to work. No caller ID re-boots, and the HDMI input seems pretty reliable. I may have noticed a small dropout or two, but certainly nothing major, and no more frequently than on my RCA or HD TiVo.

Actually, with the new software, it outputs a higher black level than before, which I think is good-- once you adjust your TV's brightness/contrast settings to optimum, viewing with the H10's HDMI input is now a much nicer match to my DVD player's component input than before (no hassle with tweaking and re-tweaking the picture settings when going between TV and DVD viewing).

Will be interested to hear others' feedback, and if there are any issues/problems. Here's hoping it's been well-tested.

Got my update this morning....live in Ft.Worth, TX. I think it had been updating the past few days as I noticed my channel guide scrolling to be slow. An indicator that processing cycles may have been used to receiving the update.

Anyway, all is not well. No local, OTA or premium channels now. I'll need to call DTV later today. Had no time this morning at home. Wonder if this has something to do with not having a phone line connected.

rockaway1836
08-09-2005, 06:41 AM
Just repeat satellite setup. You will need to scan for locals again if you are using OTA. Also you may need to reset back to 16:9

tec319
08-09-2005, 07:29 AM
I got the upgrade as well. However before you call D* you need to go back and change the dish and your sound and picture. The upgrade resets the whole reciever. Thats the reason you lose your Hd channels because it resets the dish to round.

Not all that got the upgrade and repeated Sat Setup got their locals back. Some may have to call D for a re-hit.

DanP
08-09-2005, 11:44 AM
Note that if you used 'custom channels' for your guide pre-upgrade rather than 'all channels' your local stations will not work. You need to redefine customer channels though all channels work fine. Just got through that confusion with DTV.

rockaway1836
08-09-2005, 11:57 AM
I had no custom channels, and needed to be re-hit. Not everyone has had the same smooth experience. Some lost locals ,some didn't . Some lost OTA, some didn't. One thing I don't think we coverd yet is that besides from having to reset to 16:9, you may have to also reset your resolutions as well. In my case the H-10 was set to 480/p only and Native had been turned off following the upgrade.

jeffreydj
08-09-2005, 01:44 PM
Yes, I forgot. I had to reset my resolution as well.

Also, for locals, just run the rescan. it only takes a few minutes. Mine wasn't perfect, but it only took a few minutes of my time to fix, and was far easier then bothering with D*.

I did it 4 times and rebooted twice. I finaly had to break down and call D. They re-hit me and I got the locals back. It only took 5 mins from the time I dialed the phone till they were back up.

I got my update too, this morning when I turned receiver on, I had a few channels, not many.
I didn't have time to call before work, so I did manage to do the reset thing and everything looked good according to the System info screen , but still only had 15-20 channels in the guide, most channels when I went to them said Channel not available.

I also finished setting up my locals last night, and they were not available this morning.

When I got home tonight, I got to looking thru all my settings and they looked normal, so I went to settings and favorites and found that the update eliminated most of my channels, so I re inputted all my channels and everything is working well now.

BTW, the update fixed the phone issue, works fine now...
Can't tell ya about the HDMI set upbecause I am not using it, due to the previous reports of trouble.

I am not going to spend 100 dollars to find out thart the HDMI cable will not inprove my sd channels.
Maybe I can find them in the 40-50 dollar range, don't know. I have DVI on my TV, so not sure if it is worth it.

What do you guys think, Does HDMI improve PQ noticably ? I am using Component at the moment, seems alright, but always looking for better. :)

I live in NY and got the update today. It seemed to work, but now when I get info on a program, the banner doesn't go off the screen unless I press exit on the remote. I know it's not a big deal, I was just wondering why it decided to do that after the update.

I have not experienced drop outs since the update. Which is not to say that I am prepared to say it is fixed. When I first connected my new panny plasma to my new H10 I had no drop outs the first day also.....and I was updated only last morning. Regarding PQ, I don't have a preference between HDMI and component....both look about the same and excellent.

Got the update, unplugged and let it reset.

Fixed locals (custom menu)

Check in your Settings under Display and see what it is set atmine was set at 6 sec after the update, you have several options.
Give that a try and see if it clears your screen staying on too long issue

I live in the DC area and got the update about 4:06pm. My son called me at work saying the DTV had no sound etc. I thought he had gone a hit all sorts of buttons trying to figure out the remote. I had to go in and reset the entire system, including resolution, which was at 480i only, change the dish back to oval 3 LNB etc. Seems ok now. Peace

Thanks Jimbos, I tried that and it didn't help. Like I said, it's no big deal. I'm just ecstatic it's working better. I was ready to pull what was left of my hair out. By the way, how do I record using a VCR or DVD recorder from this receiver? There isn't a TV out plug in the back. And the TV input button on both of my remotes do nothing. Thanks for any help in advance.

OK..i got the update and all my channels are there..and it's a nice feature to have the TV off button on the remote turn the H10 unit and the TV off at the same time, but......now, when I hit the TV On button, only the H10 box goes on, not my TV (Samsung 6063). I have to use another remote to turn the TV on, or switch the DirecTV remote to the TV mode and then turn the TV on. Anyone else having this problem?

prideofyankees,,
In order to record off this unit, you will need to run composite cables (yellow/red/white) , out of back of receiver into your DVR recorder or vcr., make sure you put your recording device on LINE inorder to record.

As for the TV INPUT button goes, I tried several times and finally got it done right.
I think the trick is to go to remote, program TV, then while in that screen go to the bottom of the screen where it talks about the TV INPUT button, and follow the steps closely.

Maybe more important, set this up while you are in IR mode not RF, once these items are working, THEN go to IR/RF and set up remote for RF.
I think this has something to do with why it didn't work for me the 1st time, seeing the RF was seeing the receiver still when it said to turn remote away from the receiver ....

This worked for me , give it a try, you should be good to go...
It took me awhile to figure it out originally.

I also got the update 8/9 however a strange new behavior happens, when I tune from an SD channel to an HD channel I only see a part of the picture which is blown up and mislocated on the screen. Turning the H10 off and back on fixes it. My setup is H10 HDMI to HDMI/DVI convertor to DVI input on SAMSUNG HLN507W DLP TV. H10 is set to All and Native. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
