Cabling puzzle HDMI vs Componant

I have two outputs from the DVR to my TV. On the Sony, video 8 and 9 are HDMI and Componant are 5 and 6 (go figure)

So I have 6 as a componant and 8 as HDMI.

Why would the HDMI look considerably brighter? On football games it's very noticable and better for viewing. I can;t say for certain that one is better than the other except I enjoy the compnany picture a lot more. Any ideas?
Thanks

Have all of the inputs been calibrated?

If so, they will be virtually identical

Calibrated? Who does this? I plug them in and watch. One is brighter by a lot - calibrated? Playoffs?

If you want the best PQ from your TV, do yourself a favor and calibrate the inputs you use.

Ok, there must be something to this - what equipment do I need - and thanks, really

A DVD player and a calibration disc. I have had good results with this one.

But there are other brands. DVE also has a Blu-Ray edition if you have a Blu-Ray player.

Thanks to both of you for setting me straight. I was going to play musical cables tonight but it looks like the DVD does a lot - thanks again!
