Good Evening,
I am in the market for an HDTV that is reasonable in price, and has good SD picture quality. I have DirecTV with Tivo, and Svideo output from the receiver. The above model looks like it has everything I am looking for, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this model TV. I was also looking at the Philips 32PT9100D model, but I haven't been able to find a BB that has the Philips on display so that I can see the picture quality. I would imagine that since I have DirecTV, that the picture quality should be decent, even on SD, but I want to make sure before I jump in. I have a Toshiba 32AF45, which I have decided to return, because of the fact that it isn't digital, and can't do anything above 480I. I have a progressive scan DVD player, and want to take full advantage of it, as well as the HD channels on DirecTV, which are increasing in number. I appreciate the help, and love this site. Have a good evening.

Thanks,
Don

You're making a big mistake if you buy a 4:3 display that is semi-compatible with HDTV... all HDTV is sent widescreen, and the ATSC spec calls for widescreen displays. Wide direct view CRTs come in 30" and 34", and flat panel LCDs come in several sizes in that range, with 30" wide flat panels now starting at $900. Prices rise quickly as you move to larger sizes of 32 ($1200), 37, even 45" 1080p/60 ($7000).

I hope you know you will need to upgrade both your Sat STB & the Dish to receive HDTV channels from D*... your current equiptment is limited to SDTV only, and can't be upgraded... it needs replaced. HDTV requires a MUCH more capable box to decode the vastly increased detail, with lots more memory for images with 5 times the pixels. & digital interfaces instead of SVideo, like HDMI.
