My daughter won a tv at school and I am having problems getting a dvd player to play in color. I have a directv DVR hooked up to the composite input on the tv. I am trying to hook up the component cables for the DVD, but I only get a black and white picture. I have tried three different cable, none have worked. I have looked in the menu options for both the TV and DVD, but nothing. Please help!!!!

TV - Sharp LC-19SB25U
DVD - RCA DRC232N

You need to match the RED/GREEN/BLUE (component) cables from the DVD player to the same 3 color coded inputs on the display. It sounds like you only have the Green cable connected at both ends so that is why it is only in B/W.

Hope this helps & welcome to the forum! :hithere:

Not only do I have them hooked up correctly. I have tried every possible combination, still to no avail. I do agree however, only when the green cable is hooked up correctly do I get any picture at all. Any other suggestions?

Hook it up with composite to begin with, go into setup (DVD player) and choose component. Then it will send all signals (video) to the component outputs. You can then reconnect the component cables and remove composite.

Hope this helps.

I am not familiar with the OP's RCA DVD player, but with my JVC player there is a button on the player (rather than a setup menu choice) that needs to be depressed for a few seconds to enable component-video output. The OP might need to consult the DVD player's manual if the selection cannot be found in the Setup menu.

He should also try a different DVD player if possible to make sure it is not a faulty output on the DVD player too.
