The storied career of legendary fighter Randy Couture will end where it began, in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Just not anytime soon.

It was confirmed at the UFC 102 postfight press conference on Saturday that Randy Couture signed a new six-fight, 28-month deal, which replaced his existing contract. Couture's loss to Nogueira on Saturday night was the first confirmed fight of his new contract. The prior deal would have had had one fight remaining on it after Couture's loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in Portland, Ore. After an 11-month absence from the cage, Couture signed a three-fight deal in September 2008. The new contract appears to serve as a way to keep the five-time champion in the UFC until retirement.

Although details were not discussed, Couture's agent Matt Walker called the new deal "a great showing of respect to an icon of the sport."
Couture said he would let the dust settle before he would make a decision on his next opponent in the heavyweight division, but also hinted he could possibly return to light heavyweight.

"I'm interested in interesting fights," Couture said. "There are a lot of guys in both divisions that are interesting to fight."

Good for Randy, but if it's a title he wants, it's not gonna happen.

He had his chance right before him and Dana got into it over Randy wanting to fight Fedor (never happened), so unfortunately Randy isn't ever gonna get his shot at a title.

Too bad. He's a great fighter.
