Had a scare yesterday. While stopped, waiting to merge into another lane, the car lost a lot of power and began shaking. About a split second fearing the MAF blew up, fell out, or something. But then I saw the check engine light began to flash.
Now, a blinking CEL is enough to instill panic into many (damage to the catalytic converter is possible), to me it was a relief! I was only about 2 miles from my trustworthy non-dealership VW repair place, and I knew exactly what was wrong. An ignition coil gone bad. Happened before, and it will happen again. Made it to the repair place and it was fixed by the end of the day. Only $160 including tax, 1 new coil pack and all new sparkplugs.
