Title: Monster House
BD-50 3D Disc Video: 1080p/MPEG-4 AVC Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 3D: MVC Encoded 3D Aspect Ratio: 2.40:1 Subtitles: English, French, Portugese, Spanish Run time: 91 minutes Studio: Sony/Columbia Pictures Rating: PG 3D Equipment Used: Panasonic VT25 plasma 3DTV + Panasonic DMP-BDT350 3D BD player Monster House has arrived on 3D BD, and I just got finished watching it. This is not a promotional disc specific to any manufacturer and can be purchased by anyone. ![]() Monster House is about a house that is actually a monster. Really. ![]() When it comes to kiddie-fare like this, it's usually hit or miss with me depending on how well I was entertained. Overall I think this was a pretty entertaining movie but I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't in 3D. PQ is phenomenal, as is to be expected from CGI. There are lots of dark scenes throughout the movie and shadow detail is excellent. AQ is great, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it "reference," in that you wouldn't use this disc to showcase your sound system. Now the 3D for this film is interesting to think about. There are no "in your face" or "gimmicky" moments throughout the entire movie. Some people would probably actually prefer this kind of stuff, but I have to applaud the filmmakers for using the 3D effect to add depth rather than just have stuff flying out of the screen at you. And the sense of depth here was fantastic...one particular scene that has a kid swinging on a crane really demonstrate the merits of 3D. I did not detect any ghosting/crosstalk whatsoever. As usual I didn't watch the special features. It does have special features but I didn't watch them. Overall, I was very pleased with Monster House. ![]() Movie: 7/10 VQ: 10/10 AQ: 9/10 3DQ: 3/3 Supplements: Didn't watch. Final word: A purchase for content-starved 3DTV early adopters. |
