Default The 3DTV Early Adopter Content Thread

I may be the only one using this thread, but I'll make it anyway.

This thread is for 3DTV EA's to discuss content...what's out, what's coming, and what they want.

First and foremost I'm excited about 3D PS3 games. The games and demos that I have now are quite cool, and there are more games are on the way. The three that I currently have reserved are Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, and of course The Sly Collection. I'm most excited about Gran Turismo 5...the Gran Turismo series is the best racing-sim hands-down, and the option to play in 3D will be cool indeed. Gran Turismo 5 hits store shelves November 2 of this year.

More 3D PS3 games are on the way; I compiled a brief list (probably not complete/comprehensive) a while back here on HDF.

The only 3D BD movie I have is currently Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, which I enjoy but I would like to have more than one movie.

Waiting on Panasonic to send me Coraline and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs via rebate (who knows how long that will take lmao).

Of course I'd like to see some more 3D BD movies...anyone know what's on the horizon exactly? Would like Avatar in 3D myself...

Today I called DirecTV and ordered a DVR receiver for the gameroom. They are coming to install it on the 21st. From what they told me over the phone, I think I get ESPN 3D (I don't care...I don't watch sports), and a channel called "N3D," which I don't know much about. I may get 3D PPV? Not sure about that.

What I do know is that at least one or two more 3D channels should be coming out next year....any word on this? I think I read something about a Discovery/IMAX channel...anyone know about that?

So yeah, this thread is about 3D early adopter content. Chit chat away.

It will probably lie dormant for a while, but I decided to try and let there be a centralized place for us EAs to have discussion about content...

Oh, and btw, here are my 3D television options when DirecTV installs a DVR receiver in the gameroom on the 21st, according to their website:
  • Channel 103 - n3D. Sounds like a grab-bag of 3D stuff to watch.
  • Channel 104 - DirecTV Cinema. Some 3D movies and documentaries as they become available I imagine.
  • Channel 105 - DirecTV On Demand. Will have 3D features.
  • Channel 106 - ESPN 3D. Self-explanatory.

I imagine as more content goes online and becomes available you may be spending a lot of time updating this thread (we hope).

Thumbs up 3d

Yes, there aren't too many of us yet. But, then, when I purchased my first HDTV last century ( wow .... THAT makes me feel old ) there weren't too many HDTV owners, either. I've had my Panny 3D plasma for over a month now and I still get chills when I watch it, even in 2D. Now, if Panasonic will hurry up and send me my 2 free 3D movies, I'll be even happier.

Got my free Coraline and Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D BDs in from Panasonic today!

Will watch Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs today and post a review later on this evening or tonight. Will watch Coraline and try to have a review up by tomorrow.

If anyone wants to see my 3D Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs review it can be found here:

OK. I checked with the Panasonic Rebate Site today, and was told that my rebate form had been processed, and I should be receiving my 2 3D movies soon. I hope so. I'm going on vacation starting this weekend and would like to see them before I leave. Time's a wastin' !!

I have been asked by the OP to comment on available 3D (3D BD) content . . .

The only title that has an official street date is A CHRISTMAS CAROL which is Nov. 22nd. It will be released as a 4 disc release (MSRP: $49.99):

3D BD
BD
DVD
Digital Copy

The BD is puzzling as a 3D BD will play in any legacy BD player (in 2D only) - a requirement based on using the AVC-MVC video codec which all S3D BDs will use.

Speculation/rumors:

Sony has included trailers for MONSTER HOUSE and OPEN SEASON on it's CLOUDY 3D BD. They have also said they will release a highlights 3D BD of the World Cup matches but it is unknown if it will be this year. They also announced that RESIDENT EVIL - AFTERLIFE will be their first D/D 3D BD release which should come out in January - but they could push it for the end of December if they really wanted to. It will be released in theaters on Sept. 10th.

Bluray.com says that TOY STORY 3 will be the first 3D BD that will be released Day/Date with the DVD and BD releases.

No announcements have been made on any general releases for the 3D BDs that are currently being given away as exclusives when a 3DTV is purchased. They are:

MONSTERS VERSUS ALIENS
CORALINE
ICE AGE 3
UNDER THE SEA - an IMAX 3D doc. Sony and LG are using this as an exclusive give away.

AVATAR will be a Panasonic exclusive starting in Q4 and will be available at retail, some time in 2011.

And that's pretty much it for 3D BD.

There are 3D movies that are available on DirecTV's PPV 3D channel. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH has just been made available. I believe the cost is $5 per. You have to check the guide as their website doesn't list the movies.

ESPN3D is producing 3D content like the Yankees game, the Home Run Derby and a host of other sporting events. Check local listing.

And that it is AFAIK

EDIT:

There are 3 more 3D BDs that are exclusives:

Panasonic Demo 3D BD - included in their 3D BD players

Sony Demo 3D BD - included in their 3DTV purchases

Disney Compliation 3D BD - included in the Mitsubishi Starter Kit

Thanks for that, Lee.

Resident Evil Afterlife is on my "must-have" list for sure.

Will grab Avatar so long as it's not an over-priced "mega deluxe" edition.

No way in hell am I paying 50 bucks for A Christmas Carol.

Might check out a PPV 3D feature or two when the DVR is installed.

Still for me, 3D PS3 games are my 3D EA content of choice...

Sorry I don't keep track of 3D games.

Edited my post with an inclusion of 3 more 3D BDs that you can buy on Ebay for anywheres from $70 to $150

How did you get this rebate? I just recieved my TC-P50VT25 and didnt see any rebates, is this something I can access online?

Also I absolutely love this tv, I have a 46" Samsung 750 which was the top of the line samsung model about 2 years ago and it still whips the crap out of most lcd tv's but my new 50" panny plasma looks even better!

Also I have all the demo's for the ps3 3d and the Avatar game and the 3d almost makes it seem like I have a completely new system... It completely changes games, I laugh at the people who rip on the new 3d technology and who make up a million and one reasons why 3d is crap...blah blah blah, Most of them most likely havnt even seen the new technology, and those who have are probably just jealous of those who purchased and are experiencing it.

3D gaming is sick, and I really cant wait to see GT5 with head tracking on my ps3 eye, 3d with my tv, and the feel of my G25 wheel. That will be a truly immersive experience!

Anyways... let me know on those rebates and if I can still apply for them
Thanks

+1 about the VT25 PQ being mind-boggling.

Yeah, the 3D PS3 gaming bits we have so far are incredibly well done.

Can't wait for November to get ahold of Gran Turismo 5 and The Sly Collection (Sly 3 will be playable in 3D).

The free movies were a promotion for anyone who purchased their VT20/VT25 between 5/16/10 and 7/10/10. If you made your purchase in that range of dates, here's the form for getting your free 3D movies:
