thanks, thats a good point, maybe it is only analog so I'd be no better off than putting the coax into to TV directly.
With my current digital decoder OTA box, the HD programming looks very clean on the SD TV, whereas the same programming in SD (my local oTA stations broadcast both formats with the same content frequently) looks 'twinkly', like very compressed MPEG2, so the HD signal is of more interest to me.

The cost of digital tuners amazes me. In the UK my father says they can be bought for $90-$170, cable is rarely used. I was wondering if the cost is due to the usual leasing of cable boxes in the US resulting in a higher value to the companies selling them and thus holding back the competitive drop in price. The electronics can not be very expensive once they are mass produced..
