It could be that some the LED's that light that section of the screen are dead.

On most LED back lite HDTV's there are a group of high intensity LED's that light up the screen, on most larger screens there are 3 to 5 groups with about 10 to 20 LED's in a group.

If one group goes dead due to a burn out or a drive board problem the there is no fix you can do externally, it would be an internal problem, unless your a electronic tech this problem is a difficult one to do, if not then a trip to a repair center is the only fix.
