That was a proof of concept demo.

They use different 3D formats for "broadcast 3D" which use the same bandwidth as a HD channel does. That's why they are callled frame Compatible 3d Formats. Like a regular BD, a 3D BD provides the best consumer available PQ. It uses the Frame Packed 3D Format; Full HD per eye 3D. As opposed to Half HD per eye for broadcast.

That's why the demo was important. To show that Frame Packed 3D could be sent and received over broadcast - via FIOS.
