Its possible. In the last 2 years this has become the prevelent failure. However I have seen many with a simple blown channel or damaged e-vol\analog selector IC. Q5501. It's a flat pack ic underneath the main board.
No way of knowing on a refurb without careful inspection of the various boards. Could have been anything.
Onkyo would know what was done but they will NOT tell you. Every once in a long while I can get them to give me some history on a unit I'm working on but generally not. And I'm authorized. hehe
