The blank screen when changing HDMI inputs is also normal as part of the HDMI spec is that they are required to use copy protection on the connection and a handshake process is required as part of that. Kind of like the old dial up modems that went through a handshake process to confirm the fastest connection speed that both ends could handle.
Thanks for the reply, I also wanted to let you know i've checked the back of the tv after it's been on for a while and it's barely warm to the touch. It's warm but not burning hot. So I'm guessing that's also a really good sign of everything working correctly.
