Default Problem with Cordless Phone. :HELP:

I've searched and searched but I can't figure this out. I recently picked up a set of beautiful Uniden cordless phones with DECT6.0 and all that jazz. Hooked them up and the voicemail notification light wouldn't stop flashing. I don't even have voicemail on my FIOS that I know of and with stutter tone that shouldn't even work.

So I returned them and picked up a completely different set of phones by Panasonic. Same problem. "NEW VOICEMAIL" light on base keeps flashing. I can't figure out if I don't have voicemail why my phone would say I do.

Any ideas? I can't be the only one who wanted a brand new 4 phone cordless system.

Do you have a stutter dialtone when you pick up the phone? Or a straight dialtone? If you hear that stutter, YES voicemail is programmed on your line... and you actually have a message waiting to be heard. All FiOS phone service comes with voicemail as part of the plan .. if you dont want it, you need them to remove the feature...

If you dont have the voicemail feature removed ... it can interfere with your answering machine... and if you dont answer a call waiting, you will never get the message someone may leave.

That's interesting all the things i read said a Stutter dialtone would mean there's no voicemail and that DECT6.0 phones shouldn't be able to handle that kind of Voicemail system anyway because it requires an active line or something. I'll have to call Verizon.

You have it backwards. The stutter dial tone means a message is in your voicemail box.

What he said. Read the Verizon instructions and they will guide you to retrieve your messages. On your Panasonic phone, press the TALK button and you will see VM indicated for a soft key. Go from there.

I sent Verizon an email to completely disable voice messaging on my phone. I'm assuming that will correct the problem. now let's see how long it takes them to get around to doing it. I don't have time to wait on hold for 1.5 hours so we'll try it this way. Thanks for the help guys.

Emailing them worked. I turned off Voicemail completely and now I wish I hadn't returned the really nice unidens. The VTech's are nice though so I'll live with it for a year or two till the batteries die and get something better.

What e-mail did you use to disable voice mail? I would like to do that too.

Thanks!
