Default 1.6.2 Software Update Introduced New Problems

I live in Palmetto, Fl. and Verizon recently released the 1.6.2 software update. When are you going to get it right? Is the software even tested before it is released? I have two of the 6416 DVRS. There are two issues that started after the update which I consider to be major and Verizon needs to address the issues immediately. When you channel surf and select a channel to watch the info banner appears on the screen. It stays there for about 5 seconds and disappears as it should. Out of no where the info banner will appear on the screen again and it just displays continiously. If you press the exit button the banner disappears only to return again. The work around for this is to press the exit button twice and this prevents the banner from appearing again. I own two plasma televisions. This constant banner display is a real problem especially if you step away from the tv for an extended period of time and return only to find the banner displaying on the screen. This can cause image retention and/or burn in on plasma tvs. I have already gone through tech support and had the boxes reset, etc. I also had a technician come out and replace the boxes with the 7216 series and they have the exact same issue. The other issue that occurs on both boxes is when you search for a show that is playing the same day and select to record it the box starts recording the current show on the channel and doesn't setup the recording you selected. The work around for this is to select the show in the guide and press record. Then the show is setup for recording under view schedule. While Fios probably has the best HD picture of any service, the DVR issues make you think twice about keeping this service. It is crucial when any update is to be released that it is thoroughly tested. Your organization needs to take a different approach when it comes to testing software and releasing new updates.

Try resetting your DVRs. I haven't heard of anyone else having that issue - try unplugging them, and then plugging them back in.

Thanks for your response. I have already tried unplugging and plugging the boxes back in and this didn't resolve the problem. I did check the recording issue again and that seems to have resolved itself on both boxes. So now the only outstanding problem is the info banner reappearing on the screen and not going away by itself. I did just reset a box and had this occur again after the reset. So there is definitely an issue with the new software update.

Floridaman, this is NOT happening to everyone. That is a pretty MAJOR issue not having the info bar go away and you would hear a lot more people complaining about it. Sorry to say, this is isolated to you only .. have a another tech dispatched and do NOT let the tech leave unless the problem is resolved. If he cant fix it , insist on speaking to his manager and have a supervisor come to your house. Your ONT may need to be rebooted or changed...as they also get software updates. I wonder if the router could be a potential cause as the guide and channel information come through there.. Hmmmmm. Im leaning more towards the ONT as a possibility though.

On a side note, with the newest update, there is a glitch with the info bar.. it doesnt change WITH the channels all the time if changing channels quickly.. and needs about 5 seconds to catch up. BUT... it is dissapearing as it should. I hope they are working on resolving this as its very annoying.

Just to reiterate what Italian said, all of my problems (and I do mean all) disappeared with the new software update. I no longer experience the "snap back" when viewing recorded programs on non-DVR cable boxes and everything works like it should.

By the way, VZ did test the new software update. It was delayed for 3 months to iron all the kinks they discovered when they tested it in a select market.

It seems as if your problem is atypical, to say the least.

I havent experienced any of these issues and am quite happy with the update. The MRDVR works like a charm now and the SD shows look great.

I'm lovin FIOS

Thanks for your response. I have to disagree with your assessment. The info banner issue started immediately after the software update to both boxes which leads me to believe the problem is software related. The router has been reset by unplugging it and by turning the power off and on. I think I have figured out the pattern to create the problem. When I switch channels I will sometimes press the exit button so the banner disappears immediately. It seems that in this scenario the banner will sometimes reappear on it's own and not disappear. If I just channel surf and let the banner disappear on it's own it doesn't seem to be a problem.

You missed my point. Its not a software problem that affects EVERYONE thats gotten the update... you have an isolated problem relating to it. I believe the trouble is possibly stemming from the ONT's software since both your STB's were changed.

There arent thousands upon thousands with the same issue having to hit EXIT twice to remove the info banner.... I wouldve noticed it by now.

I am having an issue when I pull up the guide and scroll through it, it is very jumpy and does not scroll through the channels properly. This started with the new update.

Noticed the same thing, also, I could hold the up/down key and rip to the end of the guide, now it's 1 page at a time.

Verizon tech came back to my house and I was able to recreate the banner issue with him here. He called a supervisor in a local office and explained the situation to him. The supervisor tried the same steps I had mentioned in my last post and was able to recreate the exact same thing in his location (his office). This proves it is related to the latest software update and isn't related to the ONT software or any hardware. I suspect if any of you tried the steps mentioned in the prior post that the same thing would happen to you. Now I know not to use the exit button after changing the channel and to let the banner disappear by itself.

... What I thought u meant ( and you were a little unclear ) was the banner appears when changing channels and NEVER dissapears unless you hit the exit button twice.

I didnt realize you were hitting exit every time the banner shows.. a little impatient !? haha I mean.. who else does that? It goes away on its own ! When I go to work tomorrow, I'll try to replicate the same thing.

I'm having a similar but different problem. Here is what I wrote in another thread:

I noticed that if I switch from Ch 17 to Ch 16 on an SD STD, the info for Ch 17 is still displayed. If I exit to clear it and wait a few seconds it pops back up on it's own. If I exit again, it still comes back and sits there on the screen without timing out and turning off. If I go back to 17 then again to 16 it finally resets to the correct channel. It doesn't seem to do this with any other pair of channels or on my HD DVR.

There's clearly a minor bug with this upgrade.

I do this all the time.

We just got the new IMG last night here in CA. But I cannot recreate the OP situation. I have one QIP 2500-3 and one QIP 6416-2. I have tried it numerous times on both units. So far I have not noticed any irritating bugs....YET

I have the same positive experience as faulknkid. I have seen NO new bugs and cannot recreate the OP situation. And the SD clarity improvement is great.
