Default Channel unavailable...

I'll turn to a channel, it'll come in, thought sometimes without sound and after maybe 10 seconds, the screen will go black and shows "channel unavailable" in white letters. At first I thought that maybe I just didn't get those channels, but when I changed the station and a little later I went back to it, the station comes in. The DVR even didn't record a show I wanted to see...7 seconds long and blank. It's going to suck if I can't record the occasional show because of this glitch.

Has anyone else had this problem??? I really don't want to have to call Verizon.

Sorry...it says "currently unavailable". It did it with every channel today, I had to unplug it and start over.

I'm starting to think I made a mistake switching from Directv. I thought that their DVR was bad, but I would gladly have theirs over the FIOS model. Maybe I'll break down and buy a Tivo.

How many TV's do you have? Is it happening on all? More than likely you have a signal strength issue or a bad STB, call Verizon. This isnt a normal occurance people have to simply deal with, its a repair issue.

Why wouldnt you want to call for a repair?

It sounds likely to be either a signal issue, or (in my opinion, more likely) a hardware problem. I would try the normal troubleshooting - check the cable connection going to the DVR - make sure it's nice and snug. Unplug and replug the box back in. If that doesn't do it, then a reset may help - which you can have done via the automated phone system, or which (if it's working for you - some people have issues with this) you can do yourself via their website.

I just got off the phone with Verizon. The tech did a download and we'll see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks.

I was on the phone with them on Monday and today. The Tech dept. said they were shipping me a new receiver that day and it was only today that they called me back to tell me they were NOT sending me the unit to trade out with my present POS. They were calling to set up an appointment with a tech to replace my receiver.

If this is a known problem, are they just wasting my time to change it out???

After I talked with the tech to schedule an appointment, I asked to be connected to they're CSR where I bitched and made them give me the first month free since the tv is at times unwatchable...they agreed to my demand. If this continues, I might go back to Directv or get a Tivo instead of their DVR.

Everyone their is polite and all, but I'd rather have decent service to begin with.

PS, what's IMG?

When Verizon says "soon", it could be months and months.

7216 STBs have been reported to be more problematic with the currently unavailable problem. Try to get a 6xxx series DVR when the tech comes out. Your SD picture quality will probably get a little worse (the 1.6.1 update will fix this when it starts getting sent out again) but from what I've seen on various forums they do not experience the currently unavailable nearly as much if at all.

I can usually fix the currently unavailable problem by unplugging the unit for a couple of minutes. It's the constant freeze framing that's making me insane. I believe it's connected to the DVR as it seems to do it more(?) when I've paused a show for any amount of time and then come back to it and also on recorded programs. So far, I'm hating FIOS.

These motorola boxes seem to be a problem all around. I don't know why Verizon did not go with the best available box or have a box custom made when they started operations with FIOs.
