Default Im Afraid ! Fios or TWC ??

I currently have an appointment next week to have Fios installed. I now have TWC in NYC with HD DVR Box and love the cable Its just getting expensive i have road Runner for the internet. Verizon make it sound all so great the TV, Internet and home phone all one bill better quality cheaper prices. Im just afraid that when I do the change is it the right change?
1. Can I go back to TWC or does Fios cut the cable, thus you cant return to TWC?
2. Is the picture really that much better than TWC?
3. Are there a lot of problems with the DVR? and HDMI?
4. Is the internet conection that much faster thus better?
5. Will the bill eventually become more than TWC?, the first months being double to pay in advance!
Right now I currently pay about $116 total with HD Package,1 HD DVR, Road Runner Internet. My home phone is $50 a grand total of $166. Verizon says they will give me the same for about $125
What to do?? I really love the HD and the DVR I cant decide? Help anyone would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks Bill

I think if you love what you have you should stay with it. After all is said and done, the prices will be close, I can't tell you exactly how close, you'll have to do that yourself. FIOS will probably be cheaper at first, but if you call TWC and tell them you are going to switch, they will offer you some good deal, so call them for a better price.

With any new provider, there is a "getting used to" period, with some glitches, problems, a learning curve, etc.

I just think you can get TWC to match FIOS' price and being as you are happy, you should stay happy, it's a good thing to be.

I would definately go with FiOS! I have seen a noticable improvement in both picture quality and sound.

I am extremely pleased with the product that VZ is putting out there and would recommend this to anyone. You won't be disapponted.

I'm not sure this issue is one that you need to be "afraid" about....:-)

As far as switching back later, that won't be a problem. The only thing Verizon removes (if anything) from your house are the analog lines running to it. They don't own the cable line so they shouldn't touch it.

What about the ONT? Wouldn't they remove that also?

Mshulman is talking about what Verizon removes when they install I believe. If you are getting phone with Verizon also (and you have them as your current phone provider, not sure how it works if you are not with them) they will disconnect the copper phone line from your house (at least they did that with our installation).

As far as if you cancel FiOS, I'd be surprised if they kept the ONT on your house. They more than likely would remove it because there is no point in it being on your house if you do not have their service.

Absolutely wrong Shark, the ONT stays for future use. Just as the Satellite companies dont remove their dishes.

Oh. Didn't think about that. Totally forgot about Satellite companies not removing the dishes.

One thing to keep in mind however is that once they remove the copper, you can't go back to something like DSL.

I have a client that has FIOS and he has issues with his VOIP phone. After we tried lots of different options, we determined it would be easiest to try out his VOIP phone on DSL. Unfortunately Verizon removed the copper and noone could give him an answer on getting DSL hooked up.

Why would you want to add DSL that has FiOS just to have voIP ? Where would the cost savings be?
Once a house is qualified to have fiOS, Verizon DSL is no longer available there.

Switching back to another provider shouldn't be a problem. Verizon just disconnects outside connections and routes them thru their ONT. It's really no big deal.

You're in an enviable situation with two providers, Cable and Verizon. Take the cheaper package and keep your eyes peeled. If after a while you have problems with your choice...there will always be a 12 month package available that will be REALLY attractive.

I know a couple people who go back and forth and have REMARKABLY low bills for the endless promo packages....usually around $99 for TV, phone, and internet, with a DVR and HBO and SHOWTIME thrown in.

I'd do it myself but Verizon is dragging it's feet in my area and I'm stuck with Comcast for TV. (I use the Slowski's DSL and Verizon phone!)
