I'm on Long Island NY I think their PQ is great ( wish they had more free channels) and Optimum online really fast and problem free.

Default My 2 Cents......

Was a longtime Cablevision customer. Switched all three services (phone/internet/tv) to FIOS in January. FIOS charges significant taxes, where CV does not. FIOS technical support is superior to CV.
FIOS non HD picture is superior to CV. HD pic is slightly better than CV. Internet perf is very consistent on FIOS, where it fluctuates greatly on CV. FIOS phone is fibre and superior quality to CV VOIT.
FIOS has a better DVR than CV. Menu's are fairly comparable....FIOS offers FREE On Demand Movies for premium channels. CV charges for these.....FIOS has NFL network and ESPN U -love them! FIOS has more HD channels currently than CV. That's my 2 cents! Enjoy FIOS!!
They also do a GREAT job with wiring and install.

Switching to cablevision from FiOS ? Youre INSANE. FioS beats them in every category, phone internet AND TV. The ONLY advantage to CV is they are not a regulated phone company and dont charge the taxes and fee's for the phone .

Phone, FiOS gives you an 8 hour battery backup in case theres a power outage. CV has no battery backup and is internet phone ( voip )

internet Verizon beats them in speed and their speeds are ALWAYS the same. Download and upload speeds are much better on FiOS. CV is slower and in many areas the speeds fluctuate greatly during peak hours.

TV Verizon has WAY more HD channels. Way more free on-demand, multi room DVR... never gets pixellation. CV gives you garbage TV service, sorry. Just about everyone who has CV compains about pixellation. Theyve got a 1990's interactive guide, its horrible.

I would strongly suggest you call Verizon and tell them youre cancelling. Maybe theyll set you up with a new promo deal. You might get a better promotional price from CV, but honestly, its a second rate service . You get what you pay for sometimes.

Sorry, missed the part where you said fiOS tv wasnt available in your area... a little more understandable now.

Does Verizon have areas that are FIOS internet and not FIOS TV? I always thought it was all or nothing. Anyway, I can't compare to anything as I only have Cablevision services, but I can tell you my internet is always fast and I can't even recall one outage in the last 5 years and maybe 1 outage in the last 7 years.

Yea, Aside from I think Texas , PA , Florida and California which have statewide franchises, , Verizon has to go town to town negotiating fanchise agreements. Some towns are just unrealistic in their negotiations.

as one italian to another, always read the fine print!
and no, tv is not in my area, yet!
was told in a few months but we all know that may not be the case.
matter of fact when i cld to cancel my fios internet, they urged me to stay, and were willing to give me a reduction from $41 to $35..

Absolutely agree with every point you made. Switched yesterday to Fios, and it is indeed superior...very impressed so far.

BUT, I called CV today to disconnect and they gave me a REALLY GOOD price to retain me as a customer, $85 total with free DVR and boost for triple play vs FIOS at roughly $125 (~ including all fees and taxes) - this is for 1 TV setup only.
I have a bit of a dilemma, as money is a bit tight these days ... dunno what to do!

I might just stay with CV for the time being, which is contact-free.. Unless of course I call verizon and they drop the price to $100 or so, then I might stay! 25down/15up service. What is the BEST verizon promo right now? when i say best, i mean through their retention department.

Anyone have a say on this?

Verizon doesn't have a state-wide agreement here in PA. They go township-by-township. Look at how long it took them to get into Philly, and they JUST recently got the agreement in Pittsburgh. As for areas being internet-only, my area had fios internet/phone available 11 months before they had TV. In some cases the hold-up is the franchise agreement (internet doesn't require an agreement, TV does). In other cases it's due to funding issues - you need to set up a cable office to feed a local area. One town around here had a franchise agreement more than a year before they offered TV service - due to lack of funding for the cable office.
