Sounds like what happens in my house . Now when my wife finds something interesting on say Discovery, she's always finding it on the SD channel. I gently remind her that 'you know, I bet that looks alot better in HD...' One of these days I'll have to replace my remote because she's going to shove the Harmony down my throat . Actually, my wife does admit that the HD looks so much better, and she's started taking to checking the HD channels, and even asking 'do we get that in HD?'.

I really wish Verizon would have taken a page from DirecTV and used the same channel numbers for both SD and HD. In any event, I think the new channel numbering will help. So will having 100 HD channels .

sweeet,
PA should be next but JPL might have a better handle on that situation. A "default" to HD is such a great idea I might just fax this idea to friends at Motorola!!! Hope your "stuff" comes SOON!!!!

Well, I did an installation yesterday in Bronxville, NY and all the channels have been changed. We have a TON of new HD channels now. Off the top of my head , I noticed CNN HD , Smithsonian HD, Science channel HD, The Learning channel HD. There were a LOT more.. would be nice if they gave us the heads up going out to a customer. LOL

also got all my new channels/realignment the other day. At some point though they MUST offer a more flexible "favorites" list ala Dish Network. Just too many channels to not be able to customize in different lists. With Dish you were able to creat multiple lists e.g. sports, movies, kids, basic etc. and just toggle between them.

One problem I have found (and a continuation to a thread I started a few weeks ago regarding the favorites list) is that channels are showing up in my favorites list that I did not put there - I can't get rid of them either. When I do they show back up.

To make matters worse, since the channel change I've been trying to create a favorites list and while checking the channels I want an interesting thing happens EVERY TIME I get to 552 (TBS HD). As soon as I get to it and click it to add to favorites the box shuts off!! What the hell is going on here? Any one else notice this?

Hehehe!!! I know what you mean. I'm always telling my wife "you know we have that channel in HD." Her reply is "well I'm not like you that just surf the HD channels so how would I know!!" She is right, though. I pretty much stay away from the SD stuff unless the Wiggles are on for my daughter. Sitting here thinking about I do watch some stupid stuff. I can find myself watching FLOWERS grow when the picture is great. I think I might need some intervention

I guess we can go out and buy a Pronto remote, add all the TV logos so they go to the HD content once they press the channel logo.

I have a harmony and thats what I did. I put all the logo's on the remote so it takes you to the HD channels.

Maybe I need to take a look at a higher end Harmony. I have the 550. Great remote, but I can't program it for different channels like that - no logos. Which model do you have?

Edit - nevermind. I just saw all the equipment you listed under your signature.

Well, TVs kind of already have this when you plug directly into the TV. You can delete channels so that when you press channel up or down to get to a channel it will skip the deleted ones. Of course if you type the channel manually it will still come up. I did this with my grandparents HDTV (before they returned it), but they still had to type in 2-1 for CBS HD (they were using QAM for the HD channels).

This was posted in the "100 Hi-Def Channels by 8/1" thread (page 6). The person mentioned that those channels are owned by Cablevision. I looked up to confirm and Cablevision does indeed own AMC. Anyway, the person said that it is possible that we won't get those channels because Cablevision owns them, but you never know. So I just wanted to point out those 4 channels.

Yeah, I don't think we're ever gonna get those. It's a shame. It's my only FiOS regret...I really love the FiOS service..and Comcast blows, but, they have MSG HD....

Well, it looks like Verizon isn't taking this lying down:

http://policyblog.verizon.com/Policy...MSG-in-HD.aspx

Hattip to someone on dslreports for this one. Note near the top of the article, too, where it says that they're planning on offering ALL available major HD programming by end of this year.

Also, someone else posted on dslreports that NY is getting 54 new HD channels... tonight. We'll see if that's right or not. Seems unlikely that they would do that on a Friday night, but stranger things have happened.

Yeah I hear you. Thats just too, much work. I'm lazy and if I'm not being lazy I'm working on my house . My buddy in work has Dish, and he has a setting that automatically defaults to the HD channel.

JPL,

Thanks for your replay.

After I kept getting calls two months after I already had Fios TV installed in my home, I called them and spent 4 hours on the phone talking to at least 5 different people. No one had a record of me having Fios TV, I wasn't getting billed for it either. I should have shut up right there, but I am an honest person. They ended up processing my $200 gift card right away and agreed to credit my account $17 a month for a year for my issue with them.

I will say in all that, and some other calls I made to them, there are some good people there, they even admitted to me that their customer service has a lot to be desired, but are working to make it better.

I have a few stories on the MIS INFOMATION they spurt out. But then again, Comcast does the same thing.

My whole vent more then anything else, is the broken promise on the MLB Extra Innings package. I live baseball 24/7. If my back was ok, I'd still be playing at 50.

Now as we go into the fall, it looks like we won't see the Big 10 network this year in Philly (if expansion is in November) and no NHL center ice. I only care about sports. All those HD HBO channels make me laugh. just more channels to spin as I look for something to watch and eventually turn it off to read a book. They show the same movies over and over and over.

I am driving over to Comcast today to see what they can do for me. They have the sports I want for the winter. What I really want is DirecTv who in my opinion is the best service provider out there. But I can not get HD unless I cut down several trees which I won't do since they are over 60 years old. I love DirecTv's sports pack because it allows you to watch all the pre and post game reports to your hearts content.

Again, thank you!

JPL,

Actually I need to update my list of equipment. I now have a Harmony ONE and sold the 890. Both have the capability to program the logo's and have them short cut you to the channel. There are several free sites out there that have logo's for every channel you would need in the proper format to fit the Harmony screen. It is a little excessive and may not be worth the $100.00 more, but it is sweet when demoing my system for other people. I love the Harmony one remote.
