Default Fios and alarm system question

I had my install done on January 19th, Also i have ADT as my security system which was installed months before Fios was.

Well recently after I set my alarm at night the alarm tends to go off by itself a couple of times. So i obviously call ADT to see what the problem is and hope they can fix it. They tell me that they are not getting a proper feed from the phone line to their system/office. They asked me if i recently had my phone provider switched, told them i did from comcast to verizon. I was told to call verizon b/c they need to come out and fix it.

So i call today and the verizon ppl(b/c i talked to many) said that they have never heard of this issue and really didn't know how to handle/address it. One lady said she could send a tech out but if nothing is wrong they charge us anyways, clearly i do not want to do that.

So my main Question is
A: has this happened to anyone and how did you go about fixing the issue?

Thanks in advance

No, but ADT sucks and it is never their fault.

This actually did happen to my folks. We have Slomin, and when we went from copper to FiOS, it screwed up the alarm system. We called Verizon and they said they are not allowed to touch anything to do with the alarm system. So we called Slomin and they wanted to charge us to re-run the wire (so that it would work properly, don't quite remember how they did that.) Anyway, my dad just told Slomin to forget it, we'll just cancel the service and that changed their mind. They came out and did it for us for no charge, but we had to sign up for another year or something. I say call ADT again and tell them that you did not know that this was going to cause a problem and get them out to fix it. Basically, it has something to do with the fiber-optics and the alarm line needs to be routed into the copper line in the house that goes to the ONT.

If you need more info, I can ask my dad if he remembers exactly what happened and get back to you. Either post a reply here or send me a PM and I'll try and help you out as best as I can.

Check if you have dial tone on the phone line in the alarm system box. Maybe one of your phone wires didn't get properly connected.

I have Slomin, and no issues since the install. I did test the system with the Vz tech here, who was very nice and hooked everything the way it was with copper...

I too have a monitored Alarm system but its with TriState Alarm and my install had no problems. Right after install I was worried a little so I called the alarm company they said to put the unit into test mode and set off a few alarms. They stayed with me on the phone and said they got everything and things were fine.

If your Verizon installer hooked up your phone properly you alarm should work fine. I was in the basement first during the install and pointed out where the alarm connected to the phone stuff.

Some older alarm systems wont work thru fiber I was told but mine did.

Your alarm company needs to come out and correct it's wiring. The wire from the alram should have been going out to the NID. The cable Co's are notorious for how they back feed dialtone and miss-wire alarm systems. There is NO issue with properly wired alarm systems working on FiOS.

If the FiOS technician ran a service wire from ONT to the nearest jack to backfeed the rest of the jacks in the house, your alarm will not function properly. For everything to work as usual without issues, a wire should have been run from ONT to the old copper NID ( point of entry) Either the alarm company can do this or Verizon. Sometimes its not realized alarms are on the premises when the tech does the FiOS install.

In most cases, ONT's must be installed near the electrical feed to the house to ground the ONT properly. If your old copper NID comes in at the opposite side of the house, it can get complicated as far as running wires.
