Default Motorola HD/DVR's HDMI Green Screen Problem

I have a Philips HD CRT hooked up to FiOS' Motorola HD/DVR QIP6416-1 box via HDMI. Just now, my TV's screen has begin to display a green screen with no image, although I can hear sound but only green screen. I checked to make sure the TV's HDMI input is working by using a DVD player with a HDMI output using the same cable. I called tech support but the only thing they could do is send out someone to look the box over. Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks.

Did you try to change hdmi cables or use the component cables to see if it occurs also? I had a bad hdmi cable and it caused all sorts of problems

I have a similiar problem now and then when switching from SD to HD channels with HDMI but thats normal from what I heard. Just cycle thru your TV inputs and when you get back to the HDMI choice it should sync up.

Default Thanks for you help

I will try to use another HDMI cable. Funny thing is that there is no problem while I switch to component output on the box. The cable guy said that my TV's HD analog to digital converter might be broken and thus not able to converter digital signal for the CRT tube via HDMI input. I did test the port with a upconvert DVD player with HDMI output and the TV works fine. He said the signal outputed from upconvert DVD player is not true HD signal. I don't understand how come one device works and another doesn't

YES!! I have been looking all over to see if this was a Fios compatability issue, a Motorola issue or my TV! I have a Protron 37" and originally I had it hooked up w/ an HDMI cable and got a green screen w/sound only and then it would either flash "no signal" a few times and go back to normal, I would have to power off/on either the box or mess with the channels to "jog" it back to normal. Nothing was consistant. Tech came out and replaced the splitter which they thought would do it but it did not. Replaced the DVR Motorola 6416 twice. No more green screen but can only use the box on RCA cables. Components 1 or 2 come in but I get "no signal" interruptions frequently and the HDMI connection won't work at all. This did not happen on the old box but I was told a few weeks ago they did a software upgrade which may have solved the green screen for me but introduced a new issues. Course tech support is not helpful one bit. I have done TV factory setting resets and fios box resets.... nothing works.

So now they claim it is my TV. Funny how I can watch my DVD player on my components with no problem and my HDMI was working before...... anyone with some suggestions for me would be great!! I was told that Samsung had compatablity issues with Direct TV at one time so I was hoping this was the issue with Fios and not my TV of 5 months new already going out. Hope someone has some good advice...... Sorry Maxi3D that I can't help but I sure feel your frustration!

I posted the answer above. Cycle thru your "TV's" different inputs (press the input button) and then go back to HDMI and your picture will sync.

This happens on a lot of HCMI hookups and nothing is wrong with your DVR or TV. I have 2 HD sets and once in a blue moon something happens when changing from SD to HD and the sync doesnt happen. I cycle thru the TV's inputs, go to cable, air, component, etc... and back to HDMI and its fine.

Thanks for the input. I got the HMDI cable to work by changing the box settings but now I get the black screen. It happens every 15 min or so after it syncs back up. Is there a box setting I should check?

Default Genius Wife

I just bought a Samsung HDTV and an HDMI connection and was having similar problems, no picture but had sound on the HDMI source. The tv worked fine on other sources. I figured out that adjusting the resolution settings from the cable box each time the tv was turned on allowed it to work properly. It was kind of tedious but it gave us the higher quality picture.

Then my wife discovered an easier way. We had been turning all of the components with the "all on" function on the cable box remote. Somehow the tv was turned on by itself first and then the cable box later. This amazingly fixed everything. Apparently this tv can't recognize the input from the hdmi if the cable box is on first. This is way less annoying than what I had been doing and has worked countless times now. Hope this helps somebody out there.

Cool Samsung LNS4092D and Motorola PVR connection problems

The HDMI connection between my Samsung LCD and Shaw/Motorola PVR stopped working after I moved components last month. Since then I've replaced the HDMI cable, which did nothing, and had a tech guy from Shaw come by. He says its probably a handshake issue requiring an as yet unavailable firmware update from Motorola. Does anyone think a Samsung firmware/software update could help? Any other suggestions? Right now with HDMI all I get is audio, no picture at all. My component connection works fine, but the HDMI only has one, so now I'm looking at downgrading my dvd connection to s-video, which will suck.

Default Fios Green Screen

The same thing is happening to me. I have a Samsung DLP as well as a 22" LCD, both connected to the Fios DVR. Both of the buggers go Green. I will unplug the DVR and when it resets it either, comes on fro 2 seconds then goes green, does not come on, or works fine.

My wife is so fed up she is ready to change our bundle back to Comcast.

I am away and she just called to say that she cannot watch American Idol. Of course it is ALL my fault because I wanted to switch and she wanted to keep Comcast.

if anyone has any ideas please help.

I have this prob too with my Phillips LCD's connected with HDMI but not when hooked to component.

I just cycle through or power off and on and picture always comes back on. It is a bit annoying though and apparently pretty common.

Default Moto box is horrible.

I have had very similar problems with my FiOS Motorola HD DVR. I just got off the phone with Verizon support a couple hours ago and they are shipping me a new one overnight. This is after three weeks of complaining to them about the box locking up and going to a green screen or shutting off completely. At first, they tried to say it was my TV and did everything in their power to not authorize a swap-out on my box. After replacing the cable, contacting Philips (the makers of my TV), switching out inputs and multiple resets, I determined that it had to be the cable box. I am running it off of HDMI and it just doesnít work half the time. We have had so many problems with this box it isnít even funny. I just hope the replacement works, but given the problems that their own tech admitted to on their Motorola boxes, I donít have my hopes up.

I had the same problem with my samsung tv. I thought something was broken so I just used components. Then one day I happened to switch to hdmi with a hd channel on and I had picture until I changed the channel back to a sd channel. I figured out the tv doesn't support 480i through hdmi. Try turning to a hd channel. I had to go into the stb settings and set 4:3 override to 480p. Now all my channels work through hdmi.

Problem seems to be your tv setting. Try switching from 1080 to 480 to 16:9 etc.....
