There would be nothing wrong with running one (or more) splitters at the end of a cable, as long as there is sufficient signal strength. I'm going to take a guess that all 7 TVs are near each other, say 10-15' from a common point. I'll also guess that they are located about 50' from the FIOS box. If that's the case it would be much more sensible and less costly to run a single cable from the FIOS box to the TV location; then use a 8-port splitter with short cable runs to serve the TVs. The signal loss calculations are the same either way.

Scott, what it sounded like he wanted to do was daisychain the connections.

Especially, if the intent was to put a splitter at each set and then daisychain to the next set . . . 8 times. Yes, that approach would generate unnecessary and excessive signal loss.

The FIOS box sits at the back of the store about 75' from the monitors. The flatscreens will be near the front on either side.
If I ran a single RG6 quad to a splitter location near the closest cluster of 5 screens, the coax coming off that splitter going to each receiver would be approx. 10', 10', 10', 25, 25', 35', 35' I offered this to the Verizon rep but he said no, must be home runs. Is there a difference if the splitter is near the FIOS box or 75' away? Seems it's either one long "feed" cable or 7 long "splitter" cables |

The way you describe it, it doesn't make any difference if the splitter is near the FIOS box or 75' away.
It's all a matter of total loss from the cable and the splitter(s). Let's say you use cable that has 6 dB of loss per 100'. Let's say you use a 8-port splitter that has 9 dB of signal loss at each output port. 75' of coax = 4.5 dB of loss. 35' of coax = 2.1 dB of loss. 110' of coax = 6.6 dB of loss. 8-port splitter = 9.0 dB of loss. FIOS rep says that the correct way its to run through a splitter and then through 110' of coax: OK, that's 9 dB + 6.6 dB = 15.6 dB total signal loss. You want to run 75' of coax, then a splitter, then another 35' of coax: OK, that's 4.5 dB + 9.0 dB + 2.1 dB = 15.6 dB total signal loss. Ask the FIOS guy to tell you what the difference is. Expect a blank stare or some gobbledegook about the phase of the moon.

I'm willing to bet that the FiOS rep was just a sales person or CSR and that they don't actually deal with the installs. They probably just wanted to give what they thought was the correct answer. The tech that installs will more than likely not have a problem with doing it your way mainetrain.

FIOS-Is light-the Optical box is where the light is changed back into electric signals and can fed out with RG6 or Cat6.
Building your own home? All locations should run in conduit-so if you stay in your home for the length of the mortage you can change, add and remove any type of obsolete wiring.

You can split outputs from the STB. That is not a problem.

Yes, all the outputs on the Motorola STBs are active at the same time.

With that said, when it got cheaper I got an 802.11n router and the interference is no longer an issue because its in the 5Ghz band and not many people have that around here. Joe |

fiosman, how about you read the posts before you post as that was already answered and your post is, again, wrong.
