Fios used to discount additional cable boxes if a whole house DVR is used. Not sure if the first 3 months for free is the only discount that would apply now? No info on their site, so I'm thinking that's all you get??
Thx for any insight!! |

I signed up a couple weeks ago (install sched on 1/3) and got 1yr free MR-DVR. It was either that or a $200 gift card. I sched for after 1/1 in case there are any better deals after the holiday. If there are I will just cancel the work order and reschedule. They see to install within 48-72hrs around here (Northern NJ). I ordered 2 DVR and 2 HD boxes, got no discounts on them directly.

I haven't heard much in the way of great offerings lately.
I am happy I talked my way into a free MR-DVR for life. Mr. Ed, Why all the DVR'S? (Three by my count?) |

Better check your counting fingers. I wrote: "I ordered 2 DVR and 2 HD boxes"Currently (on DirecTV) I have 2 DVRs but 10 tuners to record from so there is zero chance of conflict. On Fios I will only have 4 tuners to record from. That's a big loss of 6 tuners. Hoping Fios's "whole home" (?5? Tuner) DVR is available sooner rather than later. If Fios wasn't so expensive on a monthly basis for hardware I would have a 3rd DVR instead of a 2nd STB. DirecTV costs me $6/month for any extra DVR vs Fios (IIRC) $12/$20month. I find Fios pricing varies like crazy. One promo will give you MRDVR for "life" and another will give you HBO & SHO for life. They constantly take $$$ from one part and add it to another. I would have preferred MR-DVR for "life" but got HBO/SHO. |

![]() Edit: Ahhh, I see where you got it from. Even I don't know what I meant by that! Edit Edit: Now I see. Had to read the original post. "No discounts directly" was referring to getting a discount based on the number of boxes I ordered which is what the OP mentioned: Quote:

If you ordered beyond that, they start to get discounted. At least the old rules. I should find out the new pricing. Previously, by the time people got to the 6th and 7th box, they were $4 a month each in the NY NJ area

Ed...
DEMAND free MR-DVR for life. That's how I got it after agreeing to another plan. All they can say is NO. If they know you have options they might well say YES. |

How many boxes do you plan to get. Its not a discount that is negotiated, it is automatically applied. It comes on your bill as " Multi-Room DVR Package - 6 Room " , as an example. 3 rooms will be no discount. I think 4 or more.

Not sure if you are replying to my question or someone else. If it was mine I've ordered 4 STB's (2 DVR 2 HD box). Trying to find out what the next promo is before my 1/3/13 install date.

Oddly, they dont discount multiple DVR's. If you get MRDVR service, the cool thing is the DVR;s can (usually) see each other, and can view each each others recordings. When I had 2 DVR's, it was fairly glitchy, I had to auto correct it too often. I brought back the 2nd DVR when they enabled the esata port , and I added a 1TB hard drive.
Like Zip said, simply ask if you can get Free-for-life, but I wouldnt hold my breath. IMO , they should give out free-for-life, but if they were smart, theyd do it for their older 6416's only, just to get rid of them.

My 3 DirecTV DVR's see and play from each other with no problem (although you cannot program one from the other). The reason I want multiple DVR's is to get additional tuners to record from to prevent conflicts. Not only for storage capacity. One DVR = only 2 tuners. Sometimes 3 (or more) shows get recorded at once. Me, wife, kids, grandkids, movies to watch later, baseball etc. 1 FIOS DVR won't do that. Currently I have 9 tuners available. That's the only thing I hate to lose on the DirecTV->Fios switch. Anyway, I just moved my install back to Jan 8th from the 3rd. That way I can just cancel the current install if the new deals are any better than what I currently am getting. |

Yes, but with DTV, did you have it set up with an internet connection for on-demand? You may find that a lot of the shows you watch will be available on-demand, and you may not have the need to record them. List your shows, and we'll tell you if theyre on-demand.
