I realize that the 7232's are fairly new, but is there anything else on the horizon? The hopper is pretty cool and looks to be years ahead of Fios because of the different functions (recording 6 shows at once). Is Verizon or some other company working on a better box?

I'd say TiVo is the most advanced and closest to the Hopper.

http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Share-Y...on/idb-p/ideas but it's not clear that they respond to anything more complex than adding a TV channel, at least in the short term. The Verizon staff that manage that site don't seem to be empowered to tell anyone if Verizon is really acting on a suggestion. Your question has been asked for some time, along with the question as to why a DVR that has two tuners can't do PIP even though you get PIP while you're looking at your recorded programs list. Ted

Verizon is putting out their media server, probably early next year. Looks to be pretty cool, and will be more advanced than the Hopper. It'll be a suped-up DVR (6 tuners), that acts as a central gateway, and will feed separate TVs using small boxes. They're also supposed to turn on feeds to ip enabled devices which are connected in the home. And eventually the entire media server is supposed to be wireless. There are demos out there about it, and it looks pretty impressive. Initially they were talking about rolling it out by the end of this year, but early next year is much more likely.
