This will explain why that happens (even though it says commercials): http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/01...ust-startling/

It is the same reasoning. This could eventually help with it: http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/09/05...d-commercials/ but to some people they won't like it because it messes with the volume and will more than likely remove detail in the process.

I believe there is a setting in the menu section that allows you to level off the sound to a single level. As Shark said, it will effect sound detail. Directors mix up the sound levels in TV shows and movies to add to the viewing experience. If the sound is leveled off, it changes the experience some. Many people will not even notice or care, but that is something you must judge for yourself.

I didn't read the article but I assume you're talking about when a local commercial comes on and all of a sudden your volume is twice as friggen loud. It's annoying as hell and I hope the FCC crushes that and the cold calls that telemarketers do. It's like they use the Billy Mays theory "IF WE SCREAM AT THEM THEY'LL DIAL"... but I don't need walls or siding so leave me alone.
