Question: If I get the Standard STB, Will i be able to see my Locals in HD like I can now with just the coax into my QAM? Or will I have to pay 10 dollars extra a month to see my locals in HD like I do now for free?

The SD box provides no HD. All channels are SD only. The regular HD box is only $4.00 more than the SD box and it provides all the HD channels, not just the locals. SD=$5.99, HD=$9.99 monthly.

You will not only have to get the HD STB, but you will also have to upgrade your service from the Essentials package to their HD package to get any HD channels.

Also, you don't HAVE to rent an HD box to get your HD locals on a TV with a QAM tuner. Granted, you can't get the HD locals THROUGH your cable box (meaning I can't bring up the guide and tune in my HD channels via my SD box), but you could split the cable. Take the coax out from the input of your SD box. Put it into a cable splitter (make sure it's rated to go up to 1GHz). Take one output from the splitter and put it back to the cable box. Take the other output and put it to the TV's tuner. If you want to watch your locals in HD, you would flip to your TV's tuner, and watch directly from there. If you want to watch SD, just go back to the input from your cable box. This is a pretty painful way to do it, but it can be done. |
