Samsung sells 14-inch HD OLED-Panels in 2009

Wow some another great news from the IFA-2008, some Samsung official told us that the Korean company want to introduce the 14.1 inch OLED Panel early in 2009. Samsung is under pressure because Sony are running away with the nascent Oled market.

Samsung shows us now the 31-inch panel which come also with a contrast ratio of 1.000.000:1. The depth is less than 2 cm.

The chic, ultra-slim OLED TVs employ AM OLED panels developed by Samsung SDI, a Samsung affiliate dedicated to display production. The finished products weigh some 40 percent less than other LCD TVs of the same size while boasting a contrast ratio of 1 million to one, color gamut of 107% and brightness of 550nit. Samsung will begin commercial production of mid- to large-sized OLED TVs around 2010.

So we may get 50"+ OLED displays around 2012 or so. Only 4 more years likelywhich will be about the time I replace the plasma I bought this year.

TBH, I think SED missed their window to come to market and compete are reasonable prices. Remember that SED still can have burn-in which OLED will not, and after over a year+ delay because the patent holder stopped everything in it's tracts with their suit against Canon we do not know IF they can get costs down to compete.

The more competition the better I say, so we get better tech at cheaper prices but I will not hold my breath for SED at this point.
