PureDepth announced today that they have acquired a patent for Multi-Layer 3D OLED displays. PureDepth Multi-Layer-Displays (MLD) use two or more displays that are placed one in front of the other to create 3D effects. These 3D displays do not require glasses and provide real depth.

Too bad they are only looking at using this on mobile devices right now. It sounds like a good way to really make a 3D screen.

Look at the cost of a 15" translucent OLED. How much will a 50" transparent OLED cost and OBTW, you need 2 (or more) of them to create glasses free 3D.

S3D may be a hassel due to the glasses, but it is still the cheapest way (by a wide margin) to create 3D for consumers.

No doubt it is the cheaper way right now. Hopefully someday soon this will replace it at a reasonable price.
