I believe they are reserved for future use.

On mine the A button starts the U-bar. The B and C buttons don't do anything, but may in the future.

I once asked a Uverse instructor that very question. His answer was "Room for improvement."

When I was working for AT&T(2007-Oct' 2008), the ABC buttons were a carry-over from AT&Ts partnership with Dish and Yahoo. In that setup, AT&T leveraged its networking power from its acquisition of SBC (Yahoo's parent) by conencting Dish directly to the Internet through the DSL you were paying for. By doing this, you could use Yahoo's Music program (musicdawtyahoodawtcom) to customize a music station, like pandora, have access to your photos stored online (I believe up to 4GB provided) and then stream both of these things directly to the TV. So, A button would have brought up the Yahoo Music, B would bring up your photos, and C was a customized "homepage" with local weather, news, movie listings, etc.
This package was only available to new dish customers who also had AT&T DSL.

Anyways, that's what they did than. I imagine they considered pulling the technology over to Uverse at some point, and the inclusion was simple enough to do, so they put the buttons on there.

The product you're referring to was called AT&T HomeZone. Just FYI.
