I guess if you're the type who take internet chatter as gospel, then you can believe what you read; I like to deal with the REALITY of what I see with my own eyes, and after having every provider in the industry over the last 20 years, and having HD tv's from the first day they came out over 10 years ago, and through doing professional audio and video work for the last 30 years, I feel I know ALOT more than 99% of the people who post things on the internet..

You are free to believe what you want to believe, but the 1.2 million households who have signed up for UVerse since its inception can't ALL be wrong, can they?

Go to some actual Uverse forums if you want to see some objective opinions, insted of wasting your time on Cnet, and DSL reports, and a Uverse bashing site..

Yes I'll go to a very objective site like an ATT forum. I find it so ironic you tell me not to believe all the "chatter" on the internet yet I'm supposed to believe YOUR chatter.
All I did was google "uverse picture quality" I didn't seek out Uveres bashing forums etc. Uverse may be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but if you google Uverse PQ vs Direct TV PQ, you are going to be hard pressed to find anyone claiming that Uverse has a better HD PQ than Direct TV. I'm sure I can find some and I'm sure in many cases their PQ is better, I guess the ones that say otherwise are all just lying?

I'm sorry if someone has the opinion that UVERSE PQ isn't as good as DTV, and I'm sorry that hurts your feelings. But for you to make a blanket statement that Uverse PQ is better than DTV, shows how tech savey you really are, or should I say aren't.

Oh and before you go there, I never said DTV PQ was better than Uverse, I simply stated that the majority of responses I see state that DTV HD PQ is better.

Just went to your Uverse users site, apparently when asked what changes uverse users would like to see HD PQ was 2nd.

you cant hurt my feelings, since i dont know you or really care about your opinion..

I'll just end this by saying that its free to install it, so if you REALLY want to know how it is, call 'em up, have them install it, and compare them side by side..compare the total package prices, including rebates and length of commitment too, if that means something to you..

I see the difference between services every day with my own eyes. For some of the local channels and the cable channels with not so deep pockets, The HD picture is so-so. I would say right on par with the competition. For some of the better quality channels like the Discovery channel(s) and sports channels (ESPN, etc) it is definitely better. I have no links to give you here and no figures to cite. I am only telling you what I have seen with my own eyes.

The difference in picture quality between Uverse and Directv is relatively minor and depends on the channel. Certain channels have minimum bitrate agreements. The benefits of IPTV outweigh the bitrate tradeoff. If picture quality is your absolute #1 concern, you would be wise to consider Verizon FIOS (if available) and OTA.

Fios is not available where I live, so I was just trying to get some opinions on Uverse vs DTV.

Default Pq

Having had dish (a couple of years ago) and more recently Comcast, I would rate the PQ on U-verse as superior to both. Just my 2cents.

You did notice the date on that is Nov. 2007 right? U-verse has come a long ways from then, imo.

Outside of the occasional picture freeze, I feel UVERSE BLOWS AWAT satalite service in every way..
I have had HD tv's for almost 10 years, and had every service known to man, from VOOM, to Dish, to Direct, to Comcrap...Uverse is every bit as good as any of them, and, with the innovations that they are releasing regularly, and with the most HD channels of any provider, and with me saving 50 bucks a month VS my previous Dish/Comcrap combo, I recommend it to everyone..
BTW, 2500 feet is when you may be getting a bit far for perfect/strong signal, but 1000 feet is no problem
In all my years of browsing forums, you take the cake. Your comments are so illogical, it forced me to register on this site and respond. I quoted just one of your replies, but every single reply that you have made in this thread is hilariously hypocritical.

As someone who has owned and heavily used Cablevision (NY), DirecTV, Time Warner and Comcast, I find Uverse to be very well rounded and offer similar HD PQ to other providers. When I first got Uverse, the HD did seem to have a lower bitrate than what I was used to. Today's service, however, doesn't seem to have that issue.

ATT's Uverse service is the youngest of the bunch. Give them time. I am currently using 25 out of 73mbits coming into my line. I have 50 mbits just sitting there (I know a field tech and he showed me real-time data directly from the node). Lots of room for improvement.

Uverse's biggest issue for me right now is California. Socialist California has limited ATT from dispatching "all" of Uverse's features. We are crippled for the first 3 years in CA, because other cable companies don't provide a similar service. CA is giving Time Warner / Comcast etc 3 years to catch up and my service is suffering because of it. ATT could be destroying everyone in So Cal, but we are getting "Terminated" by our great state legislature. I still cannot pause live TV in multiple rooms, only one. A basic feature that all providers should be able to offer. This feature is available in every other state.

Welcome to the forum!

Here is what I do. In my bedroom I fire up the laptop and set the program I want to watch to record on the DVR online. Then I play the recording on my bedroom STB. The system works the same way in Houston as what you describe, but I found this way around it.

Also welcome to HDF!

But I have to admit, I'm having a hard time understanding why you thought Wase's comments were illogical and hypocritical...

Yea, I do that too. It's just annoying hehe. Interesting you say you cannot pause on every TV in Houston...I was told by a representative the other night that Uverse offered this. Uverse stems from Texas, so I highly doubt any area has this feature if your system doesn't. ATT customer service always is on the ball

His first paragraph and second paragraph completely contradict each other. I don't know, it made me laugh
