Question U-verse Voice

Any opinions based on experience with U-verse Voice? I'll get triple play installed next week, but haven't found much info on user experience with the phone service functionality, reliability, pros, cons, etc... Thx.

I love it. For the price of standard telephone service that we only had the call waiting option, I now get caller ID, free LD domestically, a tremendous voice message service as well as several other features.

I particularly like the ability to access the call logs either on any TV or via the internet. I can also download and save any voice message or email the messages to someone else. It is a great service.

If I fully understand the way it works, it has an advantage over other VoIP products also in that they still use the standard telephone jacks that you already have all over your house. As opposed to say, Vonage, where you have to have your phone plugged into the adapter box. It's not always as convenient since the adapter has to be relatively close to your router.

That is correct. The RG has a port that you plug into any telephone jack and that then connects the system to every other jack in the house. Very slick installation. Also I might add there is no tonal difference to the standard analog telephone and the service so far has been just as reliable.

My favorite feature by far is called "Locate Me" You can add up to five numbers to a list and when the home phone rings, so do those five numbers. It could be an office phone, or cell phones, but it is not call forwarding , it is Simultaneous Ringing.

Sounds slick, DreGun. What's the protocol involving "no answer" situations on 1 or more of the phones on your list? Does the quickest VM to "answer" the call get the message, say, if 1 or more are turned off? I can't imagine that being a problem - just wondering.

Are the numbers entered at the website?

No different than analog service for me. Vonage is dependant on your internet service, U-verse has their own.

sorry I have been away for a bit...as for no answer situations the normal home VMail will pick it up, if you have AT&T cell phones you can have the voicemails all connected.

AS far as comparing to Vonage or TW, they use a public infrastructure, where as AT&T uses its own lines. Also your Gateway breaksdown the bandwidth so the phone is not stealing from your internet.

I wanted to get u-verse voice,But it was not available at the time i had the TV & Internet installed.
Now they want $149 to install it.
I goole'd "Uverse voice Self install kit" and there is a way to avoid the $149 installation charge.Problem is no one at att knows about it.
Any help out there?

I would try again and move up the channel if necessary. Try calling 1-800-288-2020. Those customer service people seem very helpful.
