I'm having U-verse installed (all 3 - tv, phone, internet) on 11/7 and was wondering what the chances are they won't use the current cable and use Cat5?

I would prefer to have them not use the current cable because of how old the house is. Also, I currently have hsi with Charter Cable and might want to keep it. But, if the U-verse doesn't work out, I don't want to be without internet if they use the current cable.

Hope this makes sense.

Mine gets installed 11/3/09 I just removed most of the cables and by the time they get here I'm just telling them that the cable was the old 59 cable from 25 years ago.

is your house wired with cat5? I dont think theyll pull cat 5 cable for you. My house is wired, but they chose to do coax. I'm assuming because it was easier for them. That and my house is only a few years old, so i dont think it really mattered what route they went in terms of signal quality.

No, my house is not wired for Cat5. I have no idea how old the coax is either. The house is over 40 years old.

How can you tell what type of coax you have?
