God Bulger is just awful nowadays.

Oh well, there is always next year. The players really like Haslett apparently so maybe once he gets his system going and a QB that can throw to his receivers we can compete with the Cards.

That's the thing about the NFC West. We don't have to be great to compete. A .500 record could win the division in any given year.

I was really hoping we'd take Sanchez at #2. I just don't think Bulger should be our guy.

Jason Smith. What can you Baylor fans say about him? Hopefully he can fill Orlando Pace's void after a year or two.

Smart move IMO.

The Bengals have been doing a good job of getting skill players for years but never filling the lines.

Big O-Line guys are great high round draft picks. You're just paying for the beef, not the 'face of the franchise for the next generation'.

It's a better way to rebuild.


I know if I was Matt Stafford, I'd be on suicide watch right now.


So yeah, less pressure on a lineman, and they usually turn out to be great picks.

I just checked on the 2nd round & see the Rams got James Laraunitis in the early 2nd round. You are gonna love him as he would have been a top 10 pick if he'd have come out a year earlier.
He will be the Rams best defensive leader for years to come.

I don't know if he can put down big NFL RBs.

He plays with a big motor, but he's undersized.

Glad to hear it. Rams boards have lit up with messages about Laurenaitis vs. Maualuga. It's obvious Devaney and Spagnuolo liked Laurenaitis better. This team has been looking for a middle linebacker since London Fletcher departed seven years ago.

The selection of Jason Smith in round 1 is probably the safest pick they could make. And remember, Bulger was a Pro Bowler when he had a decent line in front of him. QBs are high-risk picks in the first round. Sanchez could be the next Matt Ryan or the next Ryan Leaf. Jason Smith gives them a blue-chip LT for the next decade.

You guys keep me grounded. I spend time at the Rams Herd (Rams message board) and they are all talking up Laraunitis like he's going to be the anchor of our defense for years to come.

At 6'2" and 244 pounds, he is plenty big for a MLB. Compare to some of the better MLBs in the game:

London Fletcher 5'10", 245 lb
Lofa Tatupu 6'0", 242 lb
Antonio Pierce 6'1" 238 lb

As for being "kinda short", even Brian Urlacher (6'4" , 258 lb) is only 2 inches taller.

Rey Maualuga, the alternative choice in this draft, is 6'2", 250 lb, about the same.

Check the MLBs playing today and you'll see most of them are in the 240 to 250 lb range. At that weight, they are still heavier than most of the big RBs. Even Steven Jackson, considered a big, bruising back, weighs in at only about 235 lb.

Damn. I've never checked the tape on him, but living in Ohio, you catch a lot of OSU games.

He didn't look 6'2 to me. Keep in mind that players height and weight are always skewed to accent attributes or hide flaws.

The kid has a hell of a motor and a nose for the ball. I just always thought he was small.
