Not that I know of... but I WISH!!! Apparently HDTV isn't big yet in Europe where F1s biggest audience is. But you'd think US and Japan would have enough pull to convince Bernie to let go of a couple dollors out of is fortune for some HD cameras.

Haven't seen it yet. I've seen that channel "Rush", it perhaps will show something to that effect. I can't seem to get mine off of ESPN and Monster Vision

I don't know if the US has the audience to get a broadcaster to put it on in HD. Time for a coupla Bernie stories: 1. I rembember about the time of the 1st US grand prix at Indy there was some story in Road & Track (?) about Bernie and a power struggle within F1. Bernie's quote: "They think they've got me by the b*lls. let me tell you something: Their hands aren't big enough!" 2. I saw an auction on EBay last year. The item description (and I quote): "One Useless Turd". The photo of the item: Bernie's picture. md0110

Four grand prix were broadcast in HD this year.
-US Grand Prix -Canadian grand Prix -French Grand Prix -British Grand Prix F1 is broadcast by SPEED in the US, which is owned by Fox. For the North American races they moved to the mother company, in HD, and kept it there for 4 races. Now we are back to watching in ol' SPEED in standard definition. ![]() But apparently SPEED will be available in HD very soon. :P I hope they broadcast F1 in HD. |

F1 is broadcast in 16:9 at the source, but not HD, but in PAL. That's why it upconverted well on Fox.

How can anyone watch standard def?

I googled for sources and information on Formula One in HD, and found this post...
Does anyone know if Formula 1 is going to be broadcast in HD this season or not? Are there sources online to watch? I heard that the Speed channel is going to switch to HD, but that doesn't mean that Formula 1 will be broadcast in HD here in the US (Cox cable). Thanks, G |

Speed Channel is now HD. So anything they broadcast this year will either be HD or an upconvert. Either way, F1 will look better on TV in 2008.

The FIA doesn't allow anyone to come in and film the race with their own cameras, the footage is all from FIA central space. In 2007 Bernie showed his ignorance by stating that they might go HD later in the season but that it wasn't important to him at the moment as hardly anyone has it, what was more important was broadcasting in 16:9 The races are all captured by HD cameras. I spoke with one of the FIA cameramen at last year's Montreal race, who said that they film at 1080p50. I did not see them broadcast a single race in HD last year, despite every race being in widescreen. It was all PAL, converted to NTSC for NA markets. Needless to say last year being able to watch all the races in widescreen was much more acceptable, despite them sometimes waiting until the end of the format race to click from 4:3 to 16:9 Anyway, Bernie's comments that bothered me the most were "We are really broadcasting for the big screen now, rather than worrying about HD." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/58776 Erm, sorry Bernie, but if you're broadcasting for the big screen you should make sure it looks good, unlike those awful year in review DVD's you guys have been churning out compressed to shite for the last several years. Hopefully they'll get it turned around this year....only one week to go!!! This will be my 8th year in a row in Montreal, 4th year trackside Row A, hairpin (Sec 8) |

Yeah, I'm tired of the quasi-elitist tactics of the F1 guys.
Even widescreen would be better than what we get now. Saw Monaco race last year - watching from England over Sky, and it was a BEAUTIFUL thing. Going through some withdrawals here since it looks like there won't be a US race this year. G |

The cuisine, the race atmosphere, the street celebrations, the gorgeous women, the parades of Lamborghinis and hopefully this year some Bugatti's....words fail me, it's just completely amazing. |

You are correct Doby the F1 race in Montreal is incredible kills anything at Indy as far as I am concerned the city alone makes it worth going to. I am hoping in the not to distant future to get to Silverstone for some F1 (hopefully) and some motoGP and World Superbike racing.
