The ONE Thing I Hate Most about College Sports

As bad as I hate the BCS system it is not as bad as how the NCAA handles violations by thier teams...

Right now we have the OJ Mayo & USC scandal going on....

This is what irks me sooo BAD!!! OJ Mayo & Tim Floyd are long gone & these innocent kids playing for USC now are getting screwed. Why should these kids who done NOTHING wrong suffer cause Tim Floyd was padding Mayo's wallet?
All of us here in the Cincinnati area where Mayo played his 1st 3 years of HS ball knew something was not right as he was supposed to follow Bob Huggins & his best friend Bill Walker to Kansas St. & then one day out of nowhere he says he is going to USC...WHAT!...The NCAA was too stupid to see it then & now these kids who have played their heart out for half a season gets any reason to play hard again yanked from them. There has to be a better way of penalizing these schools as this is not the first time & won't be the last.

This is so not right & this is even more reason that the NBA has to get rid of the "one & done" players & start letting guys in out of high school. Does anyone on earth believe that Mayo gained anything from going to college one year cause he had to???
I am a huge UK hoops fan & as much as I am loving the way UK is kicking butt I have to say deep down there is a part of me that worries that in a couple years we will find out things that Calipari done & be screwed...let's hope not.

I question why schools even recruit these "phenoms." You know they are gone after a year. Is that year going to do anything for your program?

That's because your getting too old.

My biggest problem with college sports is the big schools padding their schedule with the "St. Mary's girls school" teams.

If history means anything, I think that is a very legitimate concern you have. Perhaps Mr. Calipari will realize he has arrived in the "promised land" for a basketball couch, and change his stripes and run a clean program for decades to come. However, I would not bet on it. A John Wooden or Bob Knight he is NOT. The pressure to WIN at Kentucky is high, very high-- almost at "any price" high. He has succumbed to lesser pressure at lower profile programs. Let's just hope that he understands that he has "arrived" and UK's program will attract all the talent he needs . . .
